The quickest way to turn a web page into a printable PDF is to use your browser’s Print command and choose a PDF destination. On a computer, press Ctrl+P (Windows/Linux/Chromebook) or Command+P (Mac), select Save as PDF, adjust pages and layout, then save the file. On a phone, use the browser’s Share or Print sheet and select its PDF-saving option.
Always inspect the print preview before saving. A responsive page can paginate differently from its on-screen appearance, and ads, cookie notices, sticky headers, lazy-loaded images, or missing background graphics can affect the result.

The labels can vary slightly by operating-system version, but the destination is usually named Save as PDF or a comparable PDF printer.
Save a web page as PDF on a desktop
Google Chrome
- Open the page in Chrome and wait for the content you need to appear.
- Choose File > Print, or press Ctrl+P on Windows/Linux/Chromebook or Command+P on macOS.
- In Destination, select Save as PDF (or the available PDF destination).
- Set the page range. Use a specific range when you do not want navigation, comments, or advertisements.
- Choose portrait for ordinary articles or landscape for wide tables and diagrams.
- Adjust paper size, margins, scale, headers and footers, and Background graphics. Enable backgrounds when a chart, colored block, or image loses meaning without its color.
- Review every page in the preview, click Save, choose a folder and filename, and save.
Mozilla Firefox
- Open the page, select the menu button, and choose Print.
- Set Destination to Save to PDF.
- Choose the page range, orientation, color mode, paper size, scale, margins, and whether headers, footers, and backgrounds should print.
- If offered, select Simplified format for a cleaner article view. Firefox does not allow Simplified format and background printing at the same time.
- Click Print, choose the filename and location, and save the PDF.
Firefox warns that “Web pages can set themselves up to appear different on paper to how they look on screen.” Treat the preview—not the live page—as the authority for page breaks, clipped columns, missing images, and blank pages.

Microsoft Edge
- Open the website and select Settings and more > Print. You can also press Ctrl+P on Windows, Command+P on macOS, or right-click the page and choose Print.
- Choose the PDF destination and configure pages, orientation, paper, margins, scale, headers, footers, and backgrounds.
- For a less cluttered article, open Immersive Reader first when the site supports it, then print.
- To print only selected text or images, select them, right-click the selection, choose Print, check the preview, and save the PDF.
Convert a web page to PDF on a phone
Safari on iPhone
- Open the page in Safari.
- Tap the Page Menu or Share button.
- Tap Markup if you need to annotate the page; otherwise continue.
- Tap Done, choose Save File To, name the document, and select a folder in Files or iCloud Drive.
- Open the Files app to verify the PDF before sharing or printing it.
Chrome on Android
- Open the page in Chrome.
- Tap More (the three-dot menu), then Share > Print.
- In the printer or destination list, select Save as PDF.
- Choose where to save the file and tap Print. Open the saved file from the selected location to confirm it.
Firefox on Android
For a direct file, tap the three-dot menu, choose Share > Save as PDF, then tap Download. Firefox saves that file in Downloads. If you need print-dialog controls, choose Menu > Print and select the Android Print Spooler’s Save as PDF pseudo-printer. That dialog can expose copies, color, duplex, paper size, orientation, and page range.

Make the PDF readable and printable
Select only the pages you need
Set a page range instead of saving the entire site. This removes unrelated navigation, comments, advertisements, and appended pages and keeps the file smaller.
Match orientation to the content
Portrait suits most articles. Use landscape when a table, spreadsheet-like layout, code listing, or diagram is wider than the paper. If columns still clip, reduce scale or margins before changing paper size.
Balance scale and margins
Reducing scale or margins can bring clipped columns onto the page, but excessive reduction makes text hard to read. Increase scale when the preview leaves large unused areas and the text is too small.

Decide whether backgrounds matter
Background graphics preserve colored panels, charts, and visual emphasis. Turn them off when the colors are decorative or you are trying to save ink. Edge notes that output can differ when background graphics are omitted.
Use a reader view when available
Firefox’s Simplified format and Edge’s Immersive Reader can remove page chrome and improve article readability. They may also remove content you actually need, so compare the reader preview with the original page before saving.
Wait for dynamic content
Scroll through the page before printing so lazy-loaded images have a chance to load. Dismiss cookie banners, newsletter prompts, chat widgets, and sticky bars when possible. If an image or chart is still absent in preview, reload the page, wait, and print again.
Why the PDF looks different from the webpage
- Responsive reflow: print CSS can change a multi-column screen layout into a different sequence of blocks.
- Page breaks: headings, tables, and images may move to another page or leave a nearly blank page.
- Missing backgrounds: the browser may omit decorative or meaningful color unless background printing is enabled.
- Lazy-loaded media: images that appear only after scrolling may not exist when the print job starts.
- Fixed-position elements: sticky navigation, consent bars, and chat controls can repeat or cover content.
- Reader modes: Simplified format or Immersive Reader may intentionally remove menus, sidebars, advertisements, or interactive controls.
Use print preview to catch each problem. If the page is still unusable, copy the needed text into a document editor and export that document as PDF, or print a selected section rather than the whole page.

Troubleshoot common conversion problems
The Save as PDF destination is missing
Expand the destination list and look for a system PDF printer or an option named Save to PDF. On a managed computer, an administrator may have removed printer destinations; try the browser’s built-in preview or another browser.
Text or columns are cut off
Switch to landscape, reduce scale, narrow the margins, or choose a larger paper size. Recheck the page range because a selected range can begin or end in the middle of a layout.
The PDF has blank pages
Look for forced page breaks, oversized images, sticky elements, or a page range that includes an empty print page. Try reader mode, a smaller scale, or printing only the content selection.
Images or charts are absent
Wait for them to load, scroll through the page, reload, and enable background graphics if the visual is a CSS background. Some interactive charts have no printable fallback; use the site’s export command or capture a static image when available.

Headers, URLs, or dates clutter the page
Turn off headers and footers in the print settings. If the source URL is important for records, leave them enabled or add the URL to the filename and document notes.
The mobile file cannot be found
Check the location you selected: Files or iCloud Drive on iPhone, Downloads for Firefox’s direct Android path, or the folder chosen in Android’s save sheet. Search the filename from the Files app or file manager.

Reliability, privacy, and cost considerations
- Browser printing: normally uses features already included with your browser and operating system, so there is no per-page service charge. It is best for one-off documents and pages containing private information that should not leave your device.
- Cloud capture: is useful for scheduled, repeatable, or server-side work, but check the target page’s access rules and avoid sending confidential URLs or credentials unless your policy permits it.
- Verification: open the resulting PDF, search for expected text, inspect images and page count, and confirm that links or selectable text behave as required. A visual screenshot and a text-oriented PDF are not interchangeable outputs.

Can I convert a webpage without a physical printer?
Yes. Choose Save as PDF, Save to PDF, or the system’s PDF printer; no hardware printer is required.
Can I save just part of a webpage?

Will a saved PDF preserve interactive forms and videos?
