To convert a webpage URL to a PDF, open the page in a browser, choose Print, select Save to PDF (or Microsoft Print to PDF), review the preview, and save the file. The exact labels differ by browser and device. If the URL already ends in a PDF file, download that PDF instead of printing the page that links to it.
First, identify what the URL contains
“Convert a URL to PDF” can mean two different operations:
- Webpage URL: the browser renders the current HTML page, images and styles into a printable PDF.
- Existing PDF URL: the link already points to a PDF. Download or open that file directly; do not create a second PDF of the surrounding webpage. Chrome documents using Save Link As for PDF links (Google Chrome Help).
A printed webpage is a snapshot, not an interactive copy. Menus, videos, forms, animations and some scripts will not work in the resulting file.
Convert a webpage URL to PDF on a desktop
Microsoft Edge (Windows or Mac)
- Open the URL in Edge and wait until the page has finished loading.
- Open the menu (three dots) and choose Print, or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on Mac.
- Choose a PDF destination, such as Save to PDF or Microsoft Print to PDF.
- Set the page range, orientation, paper size and margins. Turn Background graphics on when colors, images or shaded sections are missing.
- Decide whether to include headers and footers. These can add the URL, date and page number.
- Check every page in the preview, click Print or Save, select a folder, give the file a recognizable name and confirm.
Edge can print only selected content and offers Immersive Reader as a less cluttered route on supported sites. Microsoft notes that Immersive Reader is not available for every webpage. See Microsoft’s Edge printing instructions for the current controls.

Firefox (Windows, Mac or Linux)
- Open the webpage, then choose File > Print or press the platform’s print shortcut.
- In the print dialog, select Save to PDF in the Destination drop-down. Mozilla’s Firefox Help specifically instructs users to select this destination to save the shown preview.
- Adjust pages, orientation, scale, margins, headers and footers as needed.
- Click Save, choose a folder and verify the PDF opens correctly.

Chrome and other Chromium browsers
- Open the URL and press Ctrl+P (Windows/Linux) or Command+P (Mac), or select Print from the browser menu.
- Set the destination to Save to PDF.
- Choose pages, paper size, orientation, margins, scale, and whether to print backgrounds.
- Click Save and select the output folder.
Chrome-based browsers use similar dialogs, but wording and available options can vary with the operating system and installed printers.
Make the PDF look like the page you need
Fix missing colors or images
Enable Background graphics (or an equivalent setting). A site’s CSS may deliberately hide backgrounds in print media, so the preview—not the live tab—is the reliable indication of what will be saved.

Remove navigation and advertisements
Use the browser’s reader or simplified view when offered, or print only a selected section. Edge’s Immersive Reader can produce a cleaner result on supported pages. Reader modes can also remove material you intended to keep, so compare the preview with the original.

Try portrait for narrow text and landscape for wide tables. Reduce or increase scale, change margins, and set a page range to avoid printing an entire site. If a heading is stranded at the bottom of a page, a small scale or margin adjustment often moves it with the following paragraph.
Capture content loaded on scroll
Scroll through the page first so lazy-loaded images and sections have a chance to appear, then print. A page that requires clicking “Load more” may need those controls activated before opening print preview.
Handle login-protected pages
Stay signed in while printing and confirm that private information is not included accidentally. Browser print creates a local file, but sharing that file can expose the same content visible to your account.
Save a URL as PDF on a phone
iPhone or iPad Safari
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Tap the page menu or Share. The position of Share depends on whether Safari uses the top or bottom tab layout.
- Tap Markup.
- Tap Done, then choose Save File To.
- Name the PDF, select iCloud Drive or an on-device folder, and tap Save.

Android Firefox
- Open the page in Firefox for Android.
- Tap the three-dot menu, then Share.
- Select Save as PDF, then tap Download.
- Find the file in the Downloads folder or Firefox’s Downloads list.

When browser printing is not enough
Basic conversion needs no extra software. Optional PDF services can help afterward with merging, compression or editing. Adobe describes browser print-to-PDF and additional Acrobat workflows in its website-to-PDF guide. Smallpdf discusses conversion and follow-up editing, merging and compression in its URL-to-PDF article. The PDF is blank
- Wait for the page to finish loading and dismiss overlays before printing.
- Reload while online and confirm the content is visible in the print preview.
- For automated capture, wait for a meaningful selector or network idle rather than using an immediate screenshot.
Images, colors or backgrounds are missing
- Enable Background graphics.
- Scroll through the page to trigger lazy images.
- Check whether the site intentionally hides elements in print CSS.
The layout is cut off
- Switch between portrait and landscape.
- Reduce scale or margins and inspect the preview.
- Print a narrower page range or selected section.
The output contains a cookie banner, popup or chat box

The browser saves an HTML file instead of a PDF
Return to the print dialog and change the destination to Save to PDF or Microsoft Print to PDF. If the URL itself is a PDF, use the link’s download command instead.
