Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To convert an existing React component, follow your project’s TypeScript setup, rename any file containing JSX to .tsx, and add types for the component’s props and any values TypeScript cannot infer correctly. You can usually keep the component’s runtime logic unchanged. Work through the steps below, checking each caller and preserving the component’s existing behavior.
1. Check your React project’s TypeScript setup
Before changing a component, identify its framework and follow that framework’s TypeScript installation and configuration instructions. React’s Using TypeScript guide says an existing project generally needs @types/react and @types/react-dom; framework defaults may already provide the setup. Your TypeScript configuration also needs DOM library support and an appropriate JSX mode.
For a broader JavaScript-to-TypeScript migration, TypeScript’s Migrating from JavaScript guide describes allowJs, which lets TypeScript accept JavaScript files during a gradual transition. React projects should also consult React’s conversion guidance. Build and type-check commands vary by project, so use the scripts and framework instructions already in your repository.
2. Rename the component file
If the file contains JSX, change its extension from .js or .jsx to .tsx. React’s documentation states, “Every file containing JSX must use the .tsx file extension.” A TypeScript file without JSX can use .ts. The TypeScript JSX handbook also requires a jsx compiler option; follow the mode specified by your framework because modes differ in whether JSX is preserved or transformed.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
3. Type the component’s props
Give the props object a type alias or an interface, then annotate the component parameter. Mark a prop optional only when callers may omit it; otherwise, keep it required. For a small component, an inline object type can be sufficient, but a named type is easier to reuse and maintain as the contract grows.
type ButtonProps = {
title: string;
disabled?: boolean;
};
function Button({ title, disabled = false }: ButtonProps) {
return <button disabled={disabled}>{title}</button>;
}
Here, title is required, while callers may omit disabled; the parameter default supplies false in that case. Compare the type with every place that renders the component. A compiler error at a call site may point to a real mismatch between the component’s contract and how it is used.

4. Add types where inference needs help
TypeScript can infer many hook and callback types from their initial values and usage. For example, useState(false) gives state a boolean type without an explicit annotation. Add a type when inference does not capture the intended alternatives or shape.
State with multiple possible values
For state that can hold different values, declare the union or object shape explicitly when the initial value alone is too narrow to express it. Include null or undefined only when those states are genuinely part of the component’s behavior.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Reducers with multiple actions
When a reducer handles several actions, describe the actions as a discriminated union—for example, an object union whose members have distinct type fields. This lets TypeScript check which data is available for each action rather than treating the action as an unknown shape.
DOM event handlers
React’s types include event definitions, and JSX context often lets TypeScript infer the event type from the element and handler. If an explicit annotation is needed, select the event type for the actual element and handler rather than applying a generic event type indiscriminately.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
5. Type children and style props to match the API
Add a children or style prop type when it is part of the component’s contract; do not add one just because the component renders JSX.
React.ReactNodeis broad and accepts renderable children.React.ReactElementis narrower: it accepts elements, not primitive values such as strings or numbers.React.CSSPropertiesdescribes an inline style object.
Choose the narrowest type that matches what callers are meant to pass. For example, a component that deliberately accepts text as children should not require a React element.

6. Account for React 19 if the project uses it
React’s React 19 Upgrade Guide, published April 25, 2024, says the React package no longer checks function-component propTypes; their use is silently ignored. For function components, use TypeScript or another type-checking solution instead. React 19 function components also no longer support defaultProps: make a prop optional when callers may omit it and provide a default in the function parameter. Class components continue to support defaultProps.
The guide lists npx codemod@latest react/prop-types-typescript as a codemod option. Review the changes it makes and validate them against your project rather than assuming an automated edit preserves the intended contracts.
7. Resolve errors without hiding real problems
After adding the types, run the project’s normal type-check and build scripts. Fix errors by tracing them to the component contract, its callers, or the values flowing through state and callbacks.
- Check callers when a required prop is missing or has the wrong type.
- Represent a real empty state with
nullorundefinedin the type instead of suppressing the error. - Avoid broad
anyannotations that silence errors without describing the data. - For a gradual migration, use the project’s TypeScript configuration and framework instructions to decide when JavaScript files should be included in checking.
TypeScript’s JSX mode, React’s types, and framework setup are version-sensitive. If configuration or a type differs from these examples, check the documentation for the installed framework, React, TypeScript, and @types/react versions.
