To send a Vimeo live event to YouTube, add YouTube as a destination in the Vimeo event’s production tool. For most eligible events, use Vimeo’s direct YouTube integration: authorize the YouTube account under Settings > Destinations, enable the destination, then start the event on Vimeo. Use RTMP credentials instead if you need a custom destination or are sending directly from Livestream Studio.

For an event-level simulcast, Vimeo documents both direct integration and custom RTMP. Its current documentation allows up to 10 integrated destinations and up to 20 custom RTMP destinations per event; these are Vimeo destination limits, not limits imposed on a YouTube channel. Vimeo’s simulcast overview and YouTube simulcast instructions explain the options.
Check the prerequisites
- Confirm Vimeo plan eligibility. Vimeo says event simulcasting requires an Advanced or Premium plan, or an Enterprise plan with the Events feature added. See Vimeo’s YouTube simulcast guidance for current eligibility details.
- Verify YouTube live access. YouTube requires a verified account to go live. Make sure you can sign in to the intended account, or have the necessary manager access to its channel.
- Prepare a functioning live production setup. Vimeo’s broader live-event setup calls for a reliable internet connection and a camera connected to a supported encoder. Those are production requirements, not extra equipment needed merely to link the accounts. See Vimeo’s live FAQ.
- Keep angle brackets out of the event description. Vimeo warns that
<and>in the description may prevent the video from streaming to YouTube.
Connect YouTube with Vimeo’s direct integration
- Create a Vimeo live event, or open the event you have already created.
- In the event’s production tool, open Settings, then Destinations.
- Select Connect beside YouTube.
- Sign in to YouTube if prompted, then choose the profile or channel that should receive the broadcast.
- Complete Vimeo’s authorization prompts and grant the requested permissions.
- Back in Vimeo, set the YouTube event privacy and save. This setting does not change the Vimeo event’s privacy.
- Check that the YouTube destination toggle is enabled.
- When ready, start the event on Vimeo. The enabled destination simulcasts automatically. You can manage the YouTube-facing title appearance, description and privacy in YouTube Studio.
Vimeo’s direct-integration setup is documented in its YouTube simulcast instructions. In an Enterprise Workspace, social connections are user-specific, while sharing and privacy may be controlled at Workspace and Organization level; Organization settings take precedence.

Connect through RTMP instead
Send a Vimeo event to YouTube
- In YouTube, follow its current encoder workflow to obtain the RTMP URL and Stream Key for the event. Keep the key private: anyone who has it may be able to send video to that stream.
- Open the Vimeo event’s Settings and Destinations panel.
- Scroll to RTMP and select Add.
- Enter a descriptive destination name, then paste YouTube’s RTMP URL and Stream Key into the matching fields.
- Save the destination and start the event using the Vimeo/encoder workflow.
- If this RTMP destination is a scheduled YouTube stream, open YouTube Live Control Room and select Go live if YouTube requires the manual activation.
Vimeo’s YouTube simulcast instructions direct users to YouTube’s current encoder workflow for the URL and key. Do not assume that sending the signal also activates every scheduled YouTube event; the separate YouTube go-live action may be required.

Send Livestream Studio output to YouTube
- In Livestream Studio, open the Stream tab and add YouTube as the provider.
- Enter YouTube’s Stream URL and Stream Key.
- Select the destination in Studio and choose Go Live.
Vimeo says the Studio YouTube workflow changed in October 2024 and now uses RTMP credentials. It recommends simulcasting through the Vimeo platform for accounts with Advanced, Premium, or Enterprise with Events, while continuing to document the Studio RTMP workflow. Manage destinations without disrupting the broadcast
- Recurring events: A destination enabled for a recurring event remains enabled by default for later occurrences unless you turn it off.
- Turning a destination off midstream: Vimeo says the event is archived on that destination immediately. Turning it back on can create a new destination event, splitting the broadcast archive into separate events.
- RTMPS URL error: If Vimeo reports an RTMPS destination URL error, its overview says adding port 443 to the RTMPS URL may resolve it.
- Extra activation step: Some platforms require the operator to push the stream live in that platform’s portal or application. For a scheduled YouTube RTMP stream, check Live Control Room for a manual Go live action.

Improve connection reliability
- Use Ethernet on a dedicated, unshared network when possible.
- Check upload speed regularly, and set the encoder’s outgoing bitrate well below the available upload speed so network fluctuations do not consume all your headroom.
- Use RTMPS if your encoder supports it.
These are Vimeo’s network recommendations, not guarantees that a stream will never drop. See Vimeo’s network guidance. A cable is optional; it is useful only if a wired connection suits your production setup. Vimeo’s live FAQ identifies a camera and supported encoder as part of sending a live stream to Vimeo, but does not prescribe particular models.
