To send OBS to IBM Video Streaming, copy the RTMP address and stream key for the intended IBM channel, then enter them in OBS under Settings > Stream as a custom streaming server. These are IBM credentials, not YouTube credentials: the destination determines which channel receives the broadcast. If you mean YouTube alone, configure OBS with YouTube’s own service and stream key instead.
How to connect OBS to IBM Video Streaming
- Select the IBM channel. Sign in to IBM Video Streaming and open the channel that should receive the broadcast.
- Find its encoder credentials. Open Channel > Broadcast Settings (or Broadcast Settings from the channel overview), then select View beside Encoder Settings. Copy that channel’s RTMP address and Stream Key. IBM recommends manual RTMP configuration with third-party encoders rather than older IBM Video Streaming or Ustream encoder login plugins. See IBM’s setup guide and Broadcast Settings instructions.
- Enter the IBM details in OBS. In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Choose Custom Streaming Server (the wording can vary by OBS version), paste the IBM RTMP address into the server field, and paste the IBM Stream Key into the key field. Apply or save the settings. OBS describes custom destinations as a server URL plus a stream key; its overview also advises setting bitrate in relation to upload speed and service limits. See OBS’s streaming guide.
- Prefer secure ingest when IBM provides it. Use the RTMPS endpoint shown for your channel in place of an unencrypted RTMP endpoint when available. IBM documents an example format,
rtmps://CHANNELID.ingest.video.ibm.com/ustreamVideo/CHANNELID; use the actual endpoint in your dashboard rather than substituting the example. See IBM’s encoder setup instructions. - Start and verify the broadcast. Start streaming in OBS, then check the IBM channel or remote console for the incoming feed. A successful OBS connection means it is sending to the configured ingest destination; it does not by itself confirm that a separate YouTube channel is receiving the stream.
Where to find the IBM RTMP URL and stream key
The values are channel-specific and appear in that channel’s Broadcast Settings > Encoder Settings > View page. Copy the current dashboard-provided address and key together for the same channel. IBM’s API documentation distinguishes an ingest URL, a secure ingest URL, a permanent channel key, and a temporary streaming key; the temporary key expires after 10 minutes, so do not mistake it for a durable credential. See IBM’s stream-key documentation.
Protect the key
Treat the Stream Key like a password. IBM warns that someone with both the RTMP URL and key may be able to broadcast to the channel. Do not post a screenshot with the key readable, share it publicly, or include a real key in a tutorial. If you think it has been exposed, use IBM’s account controls or support guidance to replace or revoke it as available.
IBM Video Streaming or YouTube: choose the actual destination
| What viewers should watch | OBS destination | Credential source |
|---|---|---|
| The IBM Video Streaming channel | Custom streaming server | The selected IBM channel’s Encoder Settings |
| The YouTube channel | YouTube service/ingest settings | YouTube’s own stream setup |
| Both IBM and YouTube at once | A multistream workflow | Credentials for each destination, configured through the chosen workflow |
OBS maintains YouTube RTMPS as a separate service from a custom server. Choosing IBM’s URL and key sends the broadcast to IBM; it does not configure YouTube. For a YouTube-only broadcast, choose YouTube in OBS and use YouTube’s own ingest details. See OBS’s maintained service configuration.

Sending one OBS production to IBM and YouTube
Broadcasting to both destinations requires an additional multistream arrangement; it is not achieved by entering two keys in the single-destination IBM setup above. IBM documents Restream as one option for multiple publishing points, and notes that using IBM as a custom RTMP platform through Restream incurs an additional cost. Confirm Restream’s current platform support, price, and account requirements directly before relying on it. Other approaches may be available, but their current compatibility and trade-offs are not established here. See IBM’s Restream instructions.
When comparing multistream options, check whether the service supports both destinations, how it handles each stream key, whether it needs additional local encoding resources, and how much upload bandwidth your setup requires. A relay may change the bandwidth and encoding demands on your computer, so do not assume the requirements are identical for every service or workflow.

Bitrate and stream settings
There is no single bitrate that is correct for every IBM channel or internet connection. Set OBS’s output based on your available upload speed and the limits for your IBM account and stream configuration. IBM’s available multi-quality renditions can depend on encoder settings, account configuration, and how the stream is set up; verify the current specifications for your channel rather than relying on a universal preset. OBS likewise advises considering upload speed and service limits. See OBS’s streaming guide and IBM’s bitrate guidance.

- OBS will not connect: Confirm that you selected the intended IBM channel and copied its current RTMP address and key without adding spaces, changing characters, or mixing credentials from another channel.
- The stream appears at the wrong destination or nowhere on YouTube: Check Settings > Stream. An IBM custom server points to IBM, not YouTube. For YouTube, configure YouTube’s own service and credentials, or set up a separate multistream workflow.
- OBS reports a connection, but IBM shows no incoming video: Recheck that the selected channel and encoder credentials match. Verify the IBM channel’s incoming-stream status in its dashboard or remote console.
- A key stops working: Check whether you copied a temporary streaming key rather than the permanent channel key; IBM documents that a temporary key expires after 10 minutes. Retrieve the appropriate current credential from IBM.
- The broadcast is unstable or quality options are missing: Check upload capacity and the limits that apply to the account and stream setup. IBM multi-quality availability depends on encoder settings and account configuration, so a preset that works for one channel may not suit another.
- A work or school network blocks the broadcast: IBM documents firewall requirements for broadcast traffic. Ask the network administrator to check IBM’s current requirements for that network rather than guessing which ports or rules to change.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a prerecorded YouTube channel stream that keeps running 24/7, StreamNeo is a different workflow from sending a live OBS production to IBM. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so no computer or home connection has to stay on. It streams YouTube only and does not broadcast from a camera.
