You can use Nelio Content to plan social messages alongside WordPress posts and send them to Buffer for distribution. The integration is listed as active by Buffer, and its basic workflow is to connect your Buffer account in Nelio’s settings, prepare messages for connected channels, then schedule or publish the WordPress post. You need a WordPress site and accounts with both services; Nelio says a free or paid Buffer account can connect, though some advanced features depend on your Buffer plan.
What the Nelio Content–Buffer integration does
Nelio Content provides a WordPress-based editorial calendar for planning posts and social messages, as well as tools for content promotion and team coordination. In the documented workflow, Buffer is the connected distribution queue: messages prepared in Nelio can be sent to Buffer when the associated WordPress post publishes. Buffer identifies the integration as a third-party integration built by Nelio Software and lists it as active.
This arrangement suits teams that want to prepare a post and its social promotion in WordPress, rather than draft that promotion entirely inside Buffer. The two services remain separate products, and the available workflow can depend on account plans and channel configuration. What you need before connecting
- A WordPress site where you can install and activate plugins.
- A Nelio Content account and license key.
- A Buffer account. Nelio says either a free or paid Buffer account can be used; advanced capabilities such as managing multiple profiles may depend on the Buffer plan.
Buffer’s listing names a WordPress site, Nelio Content account, and Buffer account as prerequisites. Check your Buffer plan and connected channel setup for the capabilities you need; the integration’s general description does not guarantee identical behavior for every network or account configuration. How to set up the integration
- Install Nelio Content. In WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New, search for “Nelio Content,” then install and activate the plugin.
- Enter your Nelio license key. Open Nelio Content’s settings in WordPress and provide the license key associated with your Nelio account.
- Connect Buffer. In Nelio’s social media settings, choose the Buffer connection and authorize the Buffer account you want to use.
- Prepare a post and its messages. In the Nelio editorial calendar, create or open a WordPress post and add social messages for the Buffer-connected channels available in your setup.
- Schedule or publish the post. Use the post’s intended schedule or publish it. Buffer says the integration can send its messages to the Buffer queue when the WordPress post publishes.
Buffer’s documented setup and prerequisites are on its Nelio Content integration listing. The listing describes the general flow; it does not establish that every network handles messages in exactly the same way.
How Nelio’s social-message automations work
Publication messages
Nelio’s help documentation describes publication messages for promoting new content. When enabled, these messages can be generated for configured profiles as content publishes, subject to existing scheduled messages and the settings in use. The documented behavior explains Nelio’s automation; it should not be read as a guarantee that every connected Buffer channel will process every message identically.

Reshare messages
Nelio also documents reshare messages for older content. It says these are generated through a WordPress cron job using configured templates. This is distinct from preparing a one-time social message for a newly published post. For the configuration details, consult Nelio’s help documentation.
Do you need a Buffer subscription?
Nelio says you need an existing Buffer account, but it may be free or paid. Some advanced features, including multiple profiles, depend on the Buffer plan. The available official descriptions do not provide a complete current plan-by-plan feature or price comparison, so check Buffer’s current account terms against the profiles and channels you intend to connect. Nelio’s integration page addresses the account requirement.

- Choose this workflow when: your editorial work is centered in WordPress and you want to plan a post and its social promotion together, or you need Nelio’s calendar and team workflow.
- Consider another workflow when: you prefer to plan and draft social content in Buffer, do not need Nelio’s WordPress editorial features, or your required Buffer features are unavailable on your plan.
- Before relying on automation: confirm the relevant social profiles are connected, review Nelio’s message settings, and verify how your channel and account configuration handles queued messages.
