You can play SteamVR games on a Meta Quest 3 wirelessly with Valve’s Steam Link app, or use a USB cable through Meta Horizon Link and launch SteamVR on your PC. Steam Link is wireless—not a USB mode. Air Link is Meta’s wireless Link option, but the current setup steps and requirements are not established here, so use Meta’s current support instructions rather than assuming Steam Link’s requirements apply.
Choose the connection that fits your setup
| Method | Connection | What you need | Where setup starts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Steam Link | Wireless streaming from PC to Quest 3 | Steam and SteamVR on a compatible Windows PC, plus a suitable Wi-Fi network | Install Steam Link in the headset and follow its pairing prompts |
| Meta Horizon Link over USB | Wired | Meta Link software and a compatible USB-C data cable; Meta’s developer hardware guide specifies 5 GB/s or higher | Establish the Meta Link connection, then run SteamVR on the PC |
| Air Link | Meta’s wireless Link route | Current consumer requirements not stated in the cited official sources | Follow Meta’s current Air Link instructions; do not assume Steam Link’s setup or requirements apply |
Valve’s Steam Link support page lists Quest 3 as supported and describes wireless streaming. Meta’s hardware setup documentation describes a USB-C cable for Link. Neither source establishes Steam Link as a USB connection.
Connect Quest 3 to SteamVR with Steam Link
Check PC and network compatibility
Valve lists these requirements for Steam Link:
- A computer running Steam and SteamVR.
- Windows 10 or newer.
- An NVIDIA GTX 970 or better, or an AMD RX 570 or better; the RX 6400 and RX 6500 XT are excluded.
- A router with a 5 GHz channel and Wi-Fi 5 capability at minimum. Valve recommends Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E.
- The PC and Quest 3 connected to the same network.
These are Valve’s stated compatibility requirements, not measured guarantees of image quality or latency. See the Steam Link requirements for the current official list.
Pair the headset and PC
- On the PC, sign in to Steam and make sure SteamVR is installed and available.
- Connect the PC and Quest 3 to the same network. For alignment with Valve’s guidance, use a 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection; Wi-Fi 6 or 6E is recommended.
- Install the Steam Link app from the Quest headset’s store and open it.
- Follow the app’s pairing prompts to connect to the PC and start streaming.
If Steam Link cannot find the PC
Check the items Valve specifies before changing other settings: Steam and SteamVR should be running, both devices should be on the same network, and the PC and router should meet the listed requirements. The support page does not establish additional troubleshooting steps here.

Use a USB cable through Meta Horizon Link
Prepare the cable and PC
Meta’s developer hardware setup calls for a USB-C data cable rated at 5 GB/s or higher and recommends the Meta Horizon Link Cable. This is a cable specification in Meta’s developer documentation; it is not a substitute for confirming that your PC meets Meta’s consumer Link requirements. Those PC requirements and exact consumer menu labels are not stated in the cited pages.
Connect, then start SteamVR
- Install and open Meta Horizon Link on the PC, then establish the Quest 3 Link connection over USB using Meta’s current consumer instructions.
- Once the headset is connected through Meta Link, open Steam on the PC and launch SteamVR.
Meta documents a USB speed test under Devices in the Horizon Link PC app. Its Passthrough over Link documentation says to try another cable or USB adapter if the measured connection is low. That guidance appears in a developer page about passthrough over Link, so treat it as a diagnostic reference rather than a complete consumer setup guide.

What to know about Air Link
Air Link is Meta’s wireless Link route, whereas the documented Steam Link method is Valve’s separate wireless streaming app. The official sources cited here do not establish current Air Link consumer requirements or exact menu steps. Use Meta’s current Air Link support instructions for pairing and compatibility, and do not transfer Steam Link’s Windows, GPU, or router requirements to Air Link without confirmation.
