Start with the maintained Happo CI guide
Create or edit a GitHub Actions workflow in your repository’s .github/workflows directory. For the Happo-specific setup, follow Happo’s continuous-integration documentation and use its current commands and credential-handling instructions. Happo lists GitHub Actions as an integration, but a copy-ready workflow should not be inferred from the package README alone.
What belongs in the GitHub workflow
A GitHub Actions workflow is a YAML file. Its general structure defines when it runs, a job and runner, and steps that invoke scripts or actions. GitHub discovers workflow files placed under .github/workflows; events can include repository activity, manual dispatch, or schedules. See GitHub’s workflow documentation and quickstart for GitHub-specific syntax and setup.
Those are GitHub workflow concepts, not Happo-specific requirements. Choose triggers, runners, and steps in accordance with your project and Happo’s current CI guide; do not assume a particular branch trigger, action version, cache, artifact process, or required-check configuration is required by Happo.

Current Happo package context
Happo’s current repository identifies happo as its npm package. It shows npm install happo --save-dev and npx happo examples, and names HAPPO_API_KEY and HAPPO_API_SECRET as configuration inputs. These details do not by themselves establish the complete GitHub Actions sequence or how the credentials should be stored in GitHub. Confirm both in Happo’s maintained CI guide before wiring them into a workflow.
Happo’s pricing page says its CLI detects GitHub Actions and other common CI providers. Provider detection is not a substitute for configuring the integration. Do not install the old happo.io package: that repository was archived on May 11, 2026, and says the package was merged into happo.

Verify the integration in your repository
- Open or create a
.ymlor.yamlfile inside.github/workflows. - Follow the current Happo CI guide for the supported workflow, setup commands, and credential handling.
- Use Happo’s current
happopackage and project configuration as directed by that guide; do not treat the repository’s isolated install or CLI example as a complete workflow. - Run the workflow with an appropriate repository event or manual trigger, then inspect the GitHub Actions run and Happo result. Resolve errors using the relevant current Happo and GitHub documentation rather than assuming undocumented steps.
Common setup mistakes
- Following an obsolete package reference: use the current
happopackage, not the archivedhappo.iorepository. - Assuming
npx happois the entire workflow: it is a CLI example, not a verified end-to-end Actions file. Consult Happo’s CI guide for the required sequence. - Guessing credential configuration: the repository shows the names
HAPPO_API_KEYandHAPPO_API_SECRET, but confirm the prescribed GitHub configuration and exposure scope in the current vendor guide. - Mixing generic Actions syntax with vendor requirements: GitHub’s workflow structure explains where jobs and steps go; it does not establish which specific steps Happo requires.
