To connect Castr to a YouTube channel in India, create a livestream in Castr, add YouTube as a destination, then either authorize your Google account or enter a YouTube stream URL and stream key. YouTube’s eligibility rules apply in India just as they do elsewhere; the documented Castr setup does not specify a separate India-only connection process.
Before you connect Castr and YouTube
- Check YouTube eligibility. Your channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. If this is the first time you enable live streaming, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Have channel access ready. For account linking, use the Google account that can manage the intended YouTube channel. For manual setup, you need access to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
- Choose a suitable Castr ingest region. Castr’s live-stream setup guide, published August 4, 2026, advises selecting a hosting region close to where you send the source stream. This is not a guarantee about performance on a particular Indian ISP.
- Check your Castr plan’s destination limit. The number of destinations you can add depends on your subscription plan.
India does not change the documented connection steps. The available instructions do not establish a special regional server address, a country-specific restriction for this workflow, or identical Google authorization behavior for every account.
Create a Castr livestream and add YouTube
- In Castr, create a livestream and select a hosting region close to the broadcaster sending the stream.
- Open the stream dashboard, add a destination, and select YouTube.
- Choose either account/API linking or manual server-and-key setup, as described below.
Castr documents these two approaches in its YouTube connection guide, published May 19, 2023. Interface labels or placement may have changed since that guide, but the two underlying setup choices are the relevant workflow.

Choose how Castr connects to YouTube
| Method | What you do | Useful when |
|---|---|---|
| Account/API linking | Authorize Google, select a channel, and choose or create event details in Castr. | You want to select or manage the YouTube event while working in Castr, and Google authorization succeeds. |
| Manual server and key | Get the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio, then enter them in Castr’s YouTube server/key setup. | You prefer to configure the destination with YouTube’s encoder credentials or account linking does not work. |
Neither method is documented as universally more reliable. With the manual key route, Castr says the stream description must be edited in YouTube’s dashboard.

Option 1: Link your Google account
- In Castr’s YouTube destination setup, select Connect to YouTube Events.
- Sign in to Google if prompted, then select the YouTube channel you intend to use.
- Choose an existing event or enter details to create one in Castr, then create the platform.
- Confirm that the destination is associated with the intended channel and event before sending the source stream.
Option 2: Enter YouTube’s stream URL and key
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select an encoder stream.
- Copy that stream’s URL and stream key. YouTube describes the key as a credential that lets an encoder send a feed; channel owners or managers can reset it. Treat it like a password: do not show it in screenshots or share it in public notes. Details are in Manage live stream settings.
- In Castr, select the YouTube server/key setup and paste the stream URL and key into the corresponding fields.
- Create the platform. Edit the stream description in YouTube’s dashboard if needed; Castr’s key-based workflow places that description management there.
Test the stream before the broadcast
- Start sending your source to Castr and confirm the YouTube destination is enabled.
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and wait for the preview. Check the correct channel, event, picture, and audio before telling viewers the stream is ready.
- Open the event’s watch page or channel view and verify that it is accessible to the intended audience.
- Make sure your outbound upload capacity has headroom above the stream’s bitrate. YouTube cautions that the bitrate must fit the available upload bandwidth; its streaming tips explain the general checks.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are archived automatically. Do not rely on that as an archive guarantee for broadcasts lasting 12 hours or longer; see Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
What to do if setup or connection fails
Google linking does not complete
Confirm that you signed in with an account that can access the intended channel. If authorization still fails, try the manual server/key method, provided the channel is eligible for live streaming.

YouTube does not show a preview
Check that the source is sending to Castr, the YouTube destination is enabled, and the URL and key belong to the selected stream in Live Control Room. If you suspect the key was exposed or copied incorrectly, reset it in YouTube and update the value in Castr.

The stream disconnects or will not start cleanly
Castr advises that when the source is offline, turn the YouTube destination off; enable it when the source is live. Also verify upload headroom and the selected hosting region. The cited guidance does not promise performance on any particular ISP or region.

If you used the manual key setup, edit the description in YouTube’s dashboard rather than expecting Castr’s key-based destination setup to manage it.
