Check the model number and ports on your onn. soundbar before connecting it: onn. models do not all offer the same inputs. If both the TV and soundbar have HDMI ports labeled ARC or eARC, use that connection first. If not, optical audio is a wired alternative when the TV has an optical output and the soundbar has an optical input.
Roku says the right connection depends on the ports and features of both devices. See Roku’s connection guidance before choosing a cable.
Choose the connection your devices support
Look at the ports on the back or side of the Roku TV and onn. soundbar, and check the soundbar model label or manual if the port names are unclear. Choose HDMI ARC/eARC only if both devices have a port labeled ARC or eARC. A regular HDMI port does not carry TV audio back to a soundbar through ARC.

For the onn. 100002635 specifically, its manual describes optical and AUX inputs. That port information is not a specification for every onn. soundbar.

Connect with HDMI ARC or eARC

Find the TV’s HDMI port labeled ARC or eARC and the matching ARC/eARC port on the soundbar. If either device lacks one, use optical instead if both have optical ports.

Connect the two labeled ports with an HDMI cable. For eARC features, both devices must support eARC and Roku specifies a High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet. Ordinary ARC does not by itself require eARC features.

On the Roku TV, open Settings > System > Control other devices (CEC). Enable ARC and System audio control. Roku also describes enabling 1-touch play in this CEC area. CEC carries control commands; ARC carries audio over the HDMI connection.

Open Settings > System > Audio > S/PDIF and ARC and start with Auto detect. If the detected format does not work, select a format supported by the soundbar rather than assuming it can decode every option. Roku documents these settings in its connection instructions.

Test audio from a Roku channel and, if available, another TV source. Use the soundbar’s manual to identify its input-selection control if it does not switch automatically.
Connect with an optical cable

Confirm that the TV has a digital optical/S/PDIF output and the soundbar has an optical input. Connect the TV’s output to the soundbar’s input with a TOSLINK cable.

Remove any protective caps from the cable ends before inserting them. Roku warns that caps left in place can cause a faulty connection or damage the cable or optical port.

On the TV, select optical audio output where that setting is available. Roku’s guide gives the path Settings > Audio > Audio output > Optical; menu names can vary by Roku TV model. See the Roku user guide.

Set the soundbar’s source to optical using its source button or remote. Input names and controls vary by model, so consult that unit’s manual.

If there is no sound, try PCM or Stereo output. The onn. 100002635 guide identifies optical as a source and recommends PCM as an optical troubleshooting option; those details apply to that model, not all onn. soundbars. Its package contents also list an optical cable, so check your own box before buying one. Read the 100002635 manual.
Why is there no sound?
Start with the cable and selected input, then check the TV’s audio settings. Roku’s no-sound troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the physical connection and compatible audio format.

- HDMI ARC/eARC: Unplug and firmly reconnect both ends of the cable; confirm the TV end is in its ARC/eARC port, not a regular HDMI input. Verify ARC and System audio control are enabled under Settings > System > Control other devices (CEC).
- Restart the connection: Unplug both the TV and soundbar from power for a short time, reconnect them, and test again.
- Check the audio format: In Settings > System > Audio > S/PDIF and ARC, try Auto detect first. If the bar remains silent or may not support the selected format, try PCM-Stereo or Stereo.
- Optical: Make sure the cable connects TV optical output to soundbar optical input, the soundbar is set to its optical source, and the TV is set to optical output. Try PCM if the format may be incompatible.
- Verify the model: Check the label on the soundbar’s back or underside, its packaging, or its manual to confirm which inputs it actually has. The onn. 100002635 guide documents optical and AUX inputs, not the port layout of every model.
Roku Support puts the key choice plainly: “When you connect your AVR or soundbar to your Roku TV, the type of connection you choose mainly depends on the available hardware connections and features of your AVR or soundbar.” See “How to connect a surround sound system to your Roku TV”.
