You cannot connect the HP Compaq iPAQ G750 foldable keyboard to a computer with a simple passive USB cable based on the documented projects. The documented wired method converts the keyboard’s electronics using an Arduino Pro Micro, a MAX232, capacitors, custom wiring and firmware. A separate project offers a replacement module with Bluetooth and wired USB support. Both are DIY or project-specific options—not verified, ready-to-use retail adapters.
Choose a conversion approach
| Approach | What it does | What the source establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Hackster wired conversion | Builds a circuit, uploads firmware and connects the modified keyboard to a PC over micro USB. | A maker tutorial published April 5, 2018 documents the parts and assembly process. It is not broad compatibility testing. Hackster project |
| Custom Bluetooth module | Replaces the connector module with a custom adapter that the project author says supports Bluetooth and wired USB. | The project describes model-specific wiring and firmware. Its specifications are author claims, not independent tests, and current product availability is unverified. GitHub project |
If you specifically want a wired USB connection and are comfortable soldering, the Hackster build is the clearest documented route. If you want Bluetooth as well, investigate the custom-module project and confirm compatibility with your exact keyboard before sourcing or building anything.
Build the documented wired USB conversion
Gather the listed components
The Hackster project lists these components for its conversion:
- One Arduino Pro Micro
- One MAX232
- Four 1 µF capacitors
- One 9 × 25 perfboard
- A soldering iron
The enclosure is optional: the project also lists four 12 mm M2.5 bolts, four M2.5 nuts and a 3D printer for its case. Its page provides a schematic, case files and Arduino code files. Check the project files and confirm the exact board and MAX232 package before buying parts; the short written instructions do not specify pin mappings.
#1 Best Overall
- iPAQ AC Adapter Mini USB
- Input Voltage AC 100 to 240 V
- Frequency Required 50/60 Hz
- Compatible with HP iPAQ Rw6815 Personal Messenger
- 0.68 Lbs (WxLxH) 1.73" x 2.83" x 1.10"
Follow the project’s assembly sequence
- Open the keyboard and disconnect and remove its original connector board.
- Extend the connector wires; the tutorial suggests about 15 cm.
- Build the circuit on perfboard using the project schematic or Fritzing sketch. Do not substitute a guessed pinout.
- Secure the circuit in a project box or the project’s optional 3D-printed enclosure.
- Upload the project’s Arduino code, then reassemble the keyboard with the new connector wiring exiting at the original connector location.
- Connect the modified keyboard to the PC by micro USB.
This requires opening the keyboard, soldering and uploading firmware. Buying an Arduino Pro Micro and MAX232 alone does not create a complete adapter; the wiring, code and assembly are essential parts of the conversion.
Check model compatibility before using another adapter
The Bluetooth-module project covers several related keyboards, but it does not treat their electronics as interchangeable. Its author reports inverted-TTL RX for the HP G750 and TTL for Dell G7L0/G7L1, with slight differences in hardware wiring and firmware. Verify the model printed on your keyboard and follow the matching project instructions rather than assuming a similar connector means the same signal levels.

- Lightweight and compact size, Easy travel data cable
- Quickly load an entire data / music library on your device
- Complies with USB specification Ver 2.0
- Works With Compaq iPAQ H3600 Series
The project’s support table names HP G750, Compaq 249711-001, ViewSonic PPC-KYB-001, Dell G7L0/G7L1 and Treo G740. It notes that the G740 layout may be inconvenient. It identifies the Belkin G700 for Toshiba as incompatible because that keyboard uses USB protocol, and marks Palm/Clie G700 support as uncertain. These are project-specific compatibility statements, not independent validation across devices.
What the Bluetooth project claims—and what remains uncertain
The project author describes the custom replacement module as supporting BLE 5.3, pairing with up to four hosts, and wired USB. Those are project specifications; the cited page does not provide independent testing of those claims or current availability. It links to a maker’s Tindie adapter listing and suggests searching eBay for keyboards using G750, 249711-001, G7L0 or G7L1 together with “Keyboard.” These are leads, not confirmation of stock, prices or sales terms.

The project also reports a possible spacebar registration issue and links to a fix. It does not establish that every keyboard has the fault or specify a universal replacement part, so treat the note as a repair lead if your unit exhibits the problem.

Compaq’s February 2001 technical reference concerns iPAQ desktop computers, not the handheld G750 foldable keyboard. It describes a six-pin PS/2 keyboard interface with data, ground, +5 VDC and clock signals, alongside a separate USB interface. That desktop pinout does not establish the G750 keyboard’s wiring; do not use it to make a G750 cable or adapter. Compaq iPAQ Series of Desktop Personal Computers Technical Reference Guide
