Connect an MM-phono turntable to the Yamaha R200A’s dedicated phono input. Connect a TV or other wired source to one of its three analog RCA inputs only when that device has stereo analog audio outputs. The R200A’s published connections do not list HDMI or optical audio inputs, so check your TV’s output panel before choosing a hookup.
What connections the Yamaha R200A supports
The R200A is a two-channel stereo receiver. Yamaha lists one phono input, three analog RCA inputs, Bluetooth 5.3 Multipoint, A/B speaker support, and a subwoofer output. Its USB port is for firmware updates only, not a listed audio-input route. See Yamaha’s R200A specifications.
Yamaha rates the receiver at 100 W + 100 W at 8 ohms, measured from 40 Hz to 20 kHz at 0.2% THD. That rating describes the specified test conditions; it does not change which connection a source needs.

Connect a turntable
- Check the turntable’s instructions or output settings to confirm it provides an MM phono signal.
- Connect the turntable’s left and right audio plugs to the R200A’s dedicated phono input.
- Select the phono input on the receiver.
Yamaha describes the R200A’s turntable connection as MM phono and identifies a dedicated phono input in its product overview. If the turntable is set to line output, or uses a different output arrangement, check its manual before selecting an input; the R200A’s phono connection is not a universal match for every turntable configuration.

Connect a TV
Start by checking the TV’s audio-output panel or manual. The right connection depends on the outputs actually available on that television.
If the TV has stereo analog RCA outputs
- Connect the TV’s left and right audio outputs to one of the R200A’s three analog RCA inputs with a stereo RCA cable.
- Select the receiver input corresponding to the sockets used. Use the label printed beside the R200A sockets; Yamaha’s cited specifications do not provide a rear-panel input-label map.
- Set the TV’s audio output to its analog or external-audio option if required by the TV.
A stereo RCA cable works for this direct connection only when the TV has matching analog outputs.

If the TV has optical audio or HDMI ARC/eARC instead
Do not connect an optical or HDMI cable directly to the R200A: Yamaha’s published R200A connection list identifies analog RCA inputs but does not list optical or HDMI inputs. The correct conversion route depends on the TV’s model and ports. Check the television’s manual or share its model number before choosing a converter; the Yamaha specifications do not establish compatibility with a particular TV or converter.

Connect other wired audio sources
A CD player or other source with stereo analog RCA output can use any available R200A analog RCA input. Connect left to left and right to right, then select the input label printed beside those sockets on the receiver. Yamaha specifically mentions CD players as connectable sources in its R200A overview.
