To run a 24/7 YouTube news playlist through SRS, use a playlist or playout process to sequence authorized clips, publish that feed to SRS, then publish from SRS to YouTube using YouTube’s current RTMPS address and stream key. SRS is the relay, not the playlist scheduler: continuity also depends on compatible media, supervised processes, network health, and recovery planning.
How the signal path works
- Prepare and sequence the media. Use FFmpeg or a playout application to create the continuous source feed from clips you have permission to use.
- Publish the feed to SRS. SRS’s RTMP documentation demonstrates FFmpeg publishing to an address such as
rtmp://localhost/live/livestream. Replacelocalhostwith the SRS host reachable by your publisher. SRS RTMP documentation - Publish from SRS to YouTube. Configure an outbound publisher to use YouTube’s current RTMPS ingest address and stream key. YouTube specifies port 443 and requires the hostname for TLS SNI. The current address is available through the LiveStreams API response field

SRS describes itself as “a simple, high-efficiency, real-time media server.” It supports RTMP, WebRTC, HLS, HTTP-FLV, and SRT; choose protocols for the relevant source and consumer connection. Do not confuse the local RTMP feed into SRS with the RTMPS connection to YouTube. SRS project overview
Configure SRS as the relay
Use the RTMP publish example in the SRS documentation as the starting point for a local or reachable SRS server. The example’s localhost address is suitable only when the publisher and SRS are on the same host; for separate machines, use the SRS host address reachable over your network. Confirm that the publisher can connect and that SRS receives the named stream before configuring the outbound YouTube leg.
SRS can accept and serve media using several protocols, but the exact configuration depends on your deployment and SRS version. Keep the two connections distinct in your design: the source publisher sends to SRS, while a separate publishing process sends the SRS stream to YouTube’s current RTMPS endpoint. Keep the YouTube stream key private and use the current details shown by YouTube rather than copying credentials or endpoint values from an old tutorial.

Build a playlist that can run continuously
Use concat only with compatible files
FFmpeg’s concat demuxer reads files in sequence and adjusts timestamps using each input’s duration. Its inputs must have the same streams, codecs, and time base; inaccurate durations may produce gaps or artifacts. Consult the FFmpeg documentation for the concat demuxer’s requirements and syntax.
For a news library assembled from different cameras, editors, or sources, inspect every file first. Normalize incompatible material to a consistent profile or use a playout workflow that handles source changes deliberately. A concat list by itself does not guarantee seamless transitions.

Design the playlist’s operating rules
Decide how the system should handle the end of the list, newly added clips, missing files, and a clip that fails to decode. Test those cases with the actual media and installed FFmpeg version; playlist updates, looping behavior, and restart strategy vary by implementation and are not guaranteed by the concat demuxer.
Make 24/7 operation recoverable
Treat the playlist reader or encoder, SRS, the network route, and YouTube ingest as independent failure points. Set up process supervision with restart rules and alerts, and monitor the source and destination rather than assuming that a running server means the broadcast is live. Plan how an operator will respond to a failed source file, a stopped publishing process, an SRS restart, or a YouTube disconnect. No particular supervisor or measured uptime is established by the cited documentation, so choose and test an approach that fits your server and operational skill.

India-specific checks before going live
Before scheduling a continuous broadcast, verify current YouTube account eligibility, live-stream duration and archive behavior in YouTube Studio or current YouTube Help materials. Those conditions can depend on platform policy and account status; the technical SRS and RTMPS documentation does not establish India-specific eligibility or limits.
Separately clear the rights to every video, audio track, graphic, and other element in the playlist. Having access to a news clip does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it. Confirm the applicable Indian legal requirements and YouTube policies for your material before going live; this guide cannot determine whether a particular clip is cleared.

Choose the right deployment approach
- FFmpeg playlist plus SRS: a flexible self-managed path when you can prepare compatible media and operate the playlist, relay, and publishing processes.
- Dedicated playout plus SRS: may suit a changing schedule or more involved playlist workflow; evaluate how it handles media changes, failure recovery, and publishing to the required ingest endpoint.
- Direct publishing to YouTube: removes SRS from the signal path if your playout system can publish to YouTube’s current RTMPS endpoint. SRS is useful when you need its relay/media-server role, but it is another process to monitor.
Compare choices by codec compatibility, recovery behavior, compute and bandwidth needs, operating effort, and current YouTube ingest requirements. A self-hosted machine or rented server both require persistent processes and a suitable network path; costs depend on the deployment, and no provider or hosting price is established here.
