To run a 24/7 YouTube stream from OBS over Airtel broadband, use YouTube’s recommended encoder settings, set the bitrate from your line’s measured upload speed—not its advertised download speed—and leave about 20% upload headroom. Test the stream before relying on it: neither an Airtel plan nor an OBS preset guarantees uninterrupted service.
What you need before configuring OBS
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming. YouTube may require you to enable the feature and verify the channel before your first broadcast; check the current requirements in YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- OBS Studio installed on the computer that will run the stream.
- Your stream URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to stream to your channel. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace it in OBS.
- A stable internet connection with enough sustained upload capacity for the selected resolution, frame rate, and bitrate.
YouTube offers RTMPS, an encrypted form of RTMP, where supported by the encoder. Use the stream URL and key provided by YouTube rather than guessing either value. See Manage live stream settings.
Configure YouTube and OBS
- Create the YouTube encoder stream. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or schedule an encoder stream. In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and key.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Select YouTube as the service if available, then enter or select the server and provide the stream key. Keep the key private.
- Choose the output codec and rate control. For a standard SDR stream, use a YouTube-supported codec; H.264 is a straightforward compatibility starting point. Set rate control to CBR (constant bitrate). Use a 2-second keyframe interval; YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four. YouTube supports frame rates up to 60 fps. See its live encoder settings and bitrate guidance.
- Set resolution, frame rate, and video bitrate. Start with a YouTube-recommended bitrate from the table below, then lower it if your measured upload cannot sustain it with headroom. Match the output resolution and frame rate to what the connection and content can reliably support.
- Set audio. YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio; its cited encoder guidance recommends 128 Kbps for stereo AAC/MP3. Confirm that the selected OBS audio track is the one carrying your program audio.
- Save and run a test. Start with a private or unlisted test if appropriate for your channel. Preview it in Live Control Room, inspect stream health, and confirm that audio and motion look right before leaving the broadcast unattended.
Use these YouTube H.264 bitrate starting points
| Output | YouTube-recommended H.264 video bitrate | Practical note |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps | A lower-bandwidth starting point than 1080p, but still requires stable upload capacity with headroom. |
| 720p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | Use only if the extra motion smoothness is useful and your sustained upload supports it. |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps | A common balance for detailed content, provided upload capacity is sufficient. |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps | Needs the most upload of these listed profiles; reduce the target if the line fluctuates. |
These are YouTube’s published recommended H.264 video bitrates, not Airtel-specific guarantees. They do not include the audio bitrate or network overhead. YouTube’s encoder recommendations are separate from its recommendations for uploading a prerecorded video.
Choose a bitrate from Airtel’s actual upload performance
- Test the connection from the streaming setup. Run an upload-speed test on the same computer and network arrangement you will use for OBS. Repeat at different times and while household devices are being used normally.
- Keep 20% upload headroom. YouTube recommends leaving room equal to 20% of available upload bandwidth. As a practical ceiling, if a test shows 10 Mbps sustained upload, do not plan a 10 Mbps video stream; leave room for audio, overhead, and variation. Shared household use and other outbound streams also draw from the available capacity.
- Choose a lower profile if results fluctuate. Use the lower resolution, frame rate, or bitrate that remains stable in realistic tests. An advertised broadband speed—especially a download figure—is not proof that the line can sustain the same upload rate continuously.
- Prefer Ethernet where practical. A wired PC-to-router connection removes Wi-Fi variability on that part of the path, but cannot fix an ISP outage, router fault, or congested upload. A suitable Ethernet cable is optional; no particular cable category guarantees a better stream.
Airtel India’s broadband page advertises example tiers of up to 40, 100, 300, and 1024 Mbps, with prices and availability subject to geography and current offers. Those are plan ceilings, not guaranteed upload throughput or uptime at an individual home. Check the current offer and terms for your address at Airtel Broadband Plans.

Preflight and monitor a continuous broadcast
- Test with movement and audio similar to what the channel will actually stream; a static screen can hide quality or stability problems.
- Preview the encoder feed in YouTube Live Control Room and read its stream-health messages before relying on it.
- Watch OBS’s dropped-frame statistics and verify the public player from another device or connection.
- For a long-running stream, check the computer, router, OBS process, and stream health periodically. A successful short test does not prove the system will remain uninterrupted for a full day.
If frames drop or the connection disconnects, investigate the full route: PC-to-router link, router, competing household traffic, upload capacity, and the ISP path. OBS says dropped frames generally point to an unstable connection to the ingest server or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain; it is not evidence by itself that OBS is at fault. See OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide and YouTube’s streaming tips.
Account for Airtel data terms and YouTube archiving
Estimate ongoing data use
A stream sends data continuously. Estimate monthly usage from the combined video and audio bitrate and the hours you broadcast, then check your own plan’s current terms. Airtel India’s published Xstream Fiber terms reviewed on 2026-10-03 state a 3333 GB fair-use threshold per billing cycle, after which speed is reduced; the terms also reserve the right to amend the policy. These terms should not be assumed to apply identically to every Airtel product, plan, or market. Review the current Airtel Xstream Fiber Terms and Conditions.

Do not count on one complete 24-hour YouTube archive
YouTube’s encoder instructions say streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; they do not promise a complete archive for one continuous broadcast lasting 24 hours or more. If a full recording matters, investigate a separate local recording and test the required disk capacity and storage reliability in advance. That recording is separate from YouTube’s archive behavior.
Let the stream run in the cloud instead
If the aim is a YouTube channel that keeps looping uploaded video without leaving a home computer on, StreamNeo is a cloud option for uploaded videos—not a camera-based live broadcast. The setup is: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. It loops the video from the cloud and can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream.
