Microsoft Edge’s DiskCacheSize policy sets a suggested disk-cache size in bytes; it does not impose a hard storage ceiling. Microsoft recommends leaving the policy unset for most deployments because Edge manages cache size automatically. If you have a specific operational reason to set it, use the Edge management controls available in your Microsoft 365 tenant, or use a documented device-management route, then verify the policy and restart Edge.
What the DiskCacheSize policy does
The policy is named DiskCacheSize, displayed as “Set disk cache size, in bytes.” Its value is an integer. It is supported in Microsoft Edge 77 and later on Windows and macOS; Android and iOS are not supported. See Microsoft’s DiskCacheSize policy reference.
The value is a hint to multiple cache subsystems, not a quota. Their combined disk use may exceed the configured value, although Microsoft says it should remain within the same order of magnitude. Values below a few megabytes are rounded up to a reasonable minimum.

0selects the default cache size and prevents users from overriding it. - When the policy is enabled, it takes precedence over a user’s
--disk-cache-sizecommand-line flag. - When the policy is not configured, Edge uses its default and users can override it with that flag.
- The policy is mandatory-capable, cannot be recommended, is not per-profile, and applies to profiles signed in with a Microsoft account.
Microsoft advises against setting a custom value without a specific need: a small value can reduce performance and increase network use.

Can you set it in the Microsoft 365 admin center?
Microsoft describes the Microsoft Edge management service in the Microsoft 365 admin center as a dedicated, simplified management tool, but says the service is rolling out. Its availability and interface may therefore differ by tenant. Microsoft’s Windows policy configuration guidance does not establish a universal click-by-click path for this exact setting.
If Edge management controls are available in your tenant, use the policy controls presented there to configure DiskCacheSize and assign the policy to the intended users or devices. Do not assume a particular menu label or that every tenant exposes the same controls. If the policy is unavailable in your tenant’s interface, use an existing supported device-management route instead.

Windows Group Policy
On Windows, Microsoft lists the setting under Administrative Templates > Microsoft Edge. The corresponding registry policy is SOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftEdge, with a REG_DWORD value named DiskCacheSize. Microsoft gives 335544320 bytes (0x14000000) as an example configuration, not as a recommended cache size.
Apply the change and verify it
- Deploy the policy using the management route available to your organization, with the intended integer value in bytes.
- On a target device, open Microsoft Edge and go to
edge://policy. Check whetherDiskCacheSizeappears and whether its value and status match the intended policy. - Close and reopen Edge after setting or changing the policy. Dynamic refresh is unsupported, so a browser restart is required for the change to take effect.
For Active Directory Group Policy, Microsoft also notes that you can trigger client policy refresh with gpupdate /force. That refresh does not remove the need to restart Edge before the policy takes effect. Microsoft’s configuration guidance covers applying and checking Edge policies.
