For a playlist of prerecorded wedding videos, compress the video during export, keep the audio settings separate, then upload the files and add them to a YouTube playlist. You can reduce file size without needlessly lowering audio quality, but no export setting can guarantee that a re-encoded file will be indistinguishable from its source. “YouTube Live playlist” can also mean an actual live broadcast; that uses different encoder settings, covered below.

Choose export settings for a prerecorded wedding video

Use the source resolution and frame rate as your starting point. YouTube recommends MP4 with H.264 video, progressive scan, variable bitrate, and the same frame rate as the recording. Its bitrate figures are recommendations for SDR uploads, not mandatory minimums or guarantees of a particular visual result. A wedding film with quick camera movement, confetti, foliage, or detailed fabric may need more bitrate than a mostly static scene at the same resolution.

Resolution and frame rate YouTube-recommended SDR video bitrate
720p at 24, 25, or 30 fps 5 Mbps
720p at 48, 50, or 60 fps 7.5 Mbps
1080p at 24, 25, or 30 fps 8 Mbps
1080p at 48, 50, or 60 fps 12 Mbps
2160p/4K at 24, 25, or 30 fps 35–45 Mbps
2160p/4K at 48, 50, or 60 fps 53–68 Mbps

These values are from YouTube’s current, undated upload guidance, retrieved October 3, 2026. For the complete encoding guidance, see YouTube’s recommended upload encoding settings.

Reduce video size without cutting audio by default

Video bitrate is usually the main export setting to adjust when the file is too large. Audio is configured separately: YouTube explicitly says audio playback bitrate is not related to video resolution. Lowering video resolution or bitrate does not require you to lower audio bitrate. Keep the source audio track or choose a high-quality audio export option in your editor, and avoid repeated lossy exports when possible.

YouTube recommends 384 kbps for stereo audio uploads and a 48 kHz sample rate. Its separate troubleshooting guidance lists AAC-LC at 128–256 kbps and 44.1 or 48 kHz as settings to check when an upload has audio problems. Those figures appear in different contexts; use the upload guidance as the general export target and consult the troubleshooting page if you are diagnosing a specific issue.

Check the mix in stereo and mono

Listen to the exported file before uploading, preferably with headphones and speakers. Check vows and speeches for intelligibility, music for distortion, and transitions for sudden level changes. Wedding edits can combine camera audio, microphones, and music; if tracks are out of phase, they may sound weak or disappear when summed to mono. YouTube warns that poor mono compatibility can reduce audio quality or mute audio during mono conversion, and advises checking that audio is in phase. This is a possible issue with multi-recording edits, not a problem every wedding video has. See YouTube’s upload audio and video troubleshooting guidance.

Export and upload, then add the videos to a playlist

  1. Export a representative short section first. Include a quiet speech, music, and a scene with movement or fine detail. Use MP4/H.264, progressive scan, the source frame rate, and a suitable bitrate from the table as a starting point. Retain a suitable audio setting separately.
  2. Review the exported file. Play it through and check speech, music, sync, and stereo/mono playback. If picture detail is visibly degraded, raise the video bitrate or export resolution; if the file remains too large, test a lower video bitrate while keeping audio settings unchanged.
  3. Upload in YouTube Studio. Follow YouTube’s computer upload flow. In the upload details, choose an existing playlist or create one, then complete the upload.
  4. Allow processing to finish. A newly uploaded video may not immediately be available at every resolution. YouTube notes that higher-resolution uploads can take several hours to process.

YouTube’s format specifications also advise using the highest available source quality and making a test upload when appropriate. A playlist organizes uploaded videos; it does not itself make them a live broadcast. Review your music and footage rights before publishing, especially if the edit contains commercial songs or material you did not create. YouTube’s encoding guidance for Content ID music-video partners says lossless audio is preferable to recompressing already-lossy audio, but that page is specifically for partner music-video delivery, not a general requirement for ordinary wedding uploads: YouTube music-video encoding specifications.

If you mean an actual live broadcast

A live ceremony or reception is not an upload playlist. It is sent to YouTube in real time from an encoder, so the relevant settings are the live ingestion targets rather than the upload table above. YouTube’s Live encoder guidance recommends matching the stream to available upload bandwidth, using constant bitrate (CBR), and setting keyframes every two seconds without exceeding four seconds. It supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS video, with AAC or MP3 audio and up to 60 fps.

Live stream configuration YouTube-recommended ingestion setting
H.264, 1080p at 30 fps 14 Mbps
H.264, 1080p at 60 fps 17 Mbps
Stereo audio 128 kbps
5.1 surround audio 384 kbps

These are live-stream recommendations, not export targets for prerecorded files. Run an internet speed test and a representative test stream before the event; include speech, music, and movement, and monitor stream health. YouTube specifically advises testing before going live. A live encoder also needs a stable connection with enough upload capacity for the selected bitrate plus room for network variation.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep prerecorded wedding videos playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo can loop uploaded videos from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing needs to stay on at home; it streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, for one flat price per slot. It can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, with one free day per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, or start a free day.
