Compare estimated ad revenue and membership revenue separately in YouTube Analytics over the same date range. Don’t use total RPM as a stand-in for ad earnings: YouTube’s RPM can combine ads, memberships, YouTube Premium, Super Chat and Super Stickers. A continuous live stream may be eligible for Watch Page monetization, but going live does not guarantee that ads will be served or that the stream will earn a particular amount.
What you are comparing
Watch Page ads and channel memberships earn money in different ways, so their numbers need different interpretations.

The 55% and 70% figures are shares of different net-revenue bases, not forecasts of what a channel will earn. The higher percentage does not mean that revenue stream will produce more money.

How to compare the two in YouTube Analytics
- Choose one date range. In YouTube Studio, open Analytics and set the same start and end dates for both streams of revenue. Comparing different periods can make normal changes in views, membership activity or refunds look like a difference between the revenue sources.
- Find estimated ad revenue. In Analytics, open the revenue sources report and record estimated ad revenue for the selected period. Use that figure for ads rather than total RPM.
- Record membership revenue separately. In Analytics, inspect membership revenue for the same date range. Where relevant, note changes to membership levels, gifts, refunds or MCN terms that could affect the figure or how it should be interpreted.
- Keep delivery measures distinct. Record views, estimated monetized playbacks and ad impressions as separate measures. A view does not necessarily include an ad, and a playback may have multiple ad impressions.
- Check eligibility and terms. In YouTube Studio, confirm that the channel is eligible for the features being compared, the relevant monetization modules have been accepted, and the features are enabled. Watch Page ad revenue is subject to the Watch Page Monetization Module; memberships and specified fan-funding features are subject to the Commerce Product Module.
How to interpret the results
Use revenue figures to compare realized results
Compare the reported ad and membership revenue for the same period. Those are channel-specific results; views, stream hours and a general revenue-rate estimate cannot establish what the channel actually earned from either source. YouTube’s stated shares describe how eligible net revenue is divided, not how much revenue will be generated.

Use RPM as context, not attribution
RPM is revenue per 1,000 views after YouTube’s share, but it can include ads, channel memberships, YouTube Premium, Super Chat and Super Stickers. It also includes views that generated no ads. It can help describe overall monetization, but it cannot isolate which source caused RPM to rise or fall.
Do not infer ad earnings from an always-on schedule
Live streams watched on the YouTube Watch Page or in the embedded YouTube player can be covered by Watch Page monetization when the channel has accepted the applicable module. Eligibility and continuous availability do not establish that an ad will be served, that a viewer will see one, or that a particular amount will be earned. There is no universal earnings benchmark for always-on channels in the platform guidance cited here; use the channel’s own Analytics.

Check the revenue-share terms in context
YouTube’s current Help Center guidance, accessed in 2026, states a 55% creator share of net Watch Page ad revenue for eligible public videos and a 70% share of net revenue from channel memberships and specified fan-funding features when the applicable Commerce Product Module is accepted. These percentages are not comparable gross rates: they apply to different revenue bases and do not promise a payment amount.

Keep the comparison focused on Analytics
You do not need a streaming computer, encoder, capture card or other equipment to compare the two revenue streams. The comparison is a reporting task: use the same date range, read estimated ad revenue and membership revenue separately, and treat RPM as a blended indicator rather than an attribution report.
