Use Microlink to capture the page before and after a change, save both image files, then compare them with a separate visual-diff tool. Microlink’s documented screenshot API captures and delivers screenshots; the comparison API described below is a separate service, not a Microlink feature.
Capture matching page states with Microlink
A useful visual comparison depends on the two screenshots representing the same page under the same conditions. Choose the route and state you want to check, then keep the viewport, page scope, color scheme, and any required interactions consistent.
- Capture the approved or earlier state and save its screenshot as your baseline.
- After the site change, capture the corresponding route and state again.
- Compare the two saved images using a visual-diff service or image-comparison tool.
- Inspect the original images alongside the diff before deciding whether a change is a defect.
Microlink’s screenshot guide describes a request with a target url and screenshot. Set screenshot: true for the default capture, or provide an options object for choices such as fullPage, element, or image type. The default capture is the current viewport; use the same scope on both runs. Microlink screenshot documentation.
Microlink renders the page in a headless browser, stores the screenshot asset on its CDN, and returns asset metadata. The response can include a screenshot URL, type, size, width, and height. Use the JSON response when you need the hosted URL and metadata; embed=screenshot.url is an option when a direct image response is more useful in markup or a pipeline. - Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Keep capture conditions fixed
- Use the same target URL and route, unless the intended change is specifically a route change.
- Keep viewport or device, full-page versus viewport capture, and element selector the same.
- Match color scheme and any setup or interaction needed to reach the relevant state.
- For pixel-accurate QA, omit Microlink’s browser-frame overlay. Microlink cautions that the frame and background add material that is not part of the page being tested: “When not to: if the image is a pixel-accurate reference for QA or visual regression, skip the overlay.” Microlink frame guidance.
Use screenshot-only mode when appropriate
If you only need screenshots, Microlink says meta: false skips metadata extraction and is usually the biggest speedup for screenshot-only requests. Do not use it if your workflow needs the metadata fields or hosted image URL from the JSON response. Microlink metadata parameter.
Compare the saved screenshots with a diff tool
Microlink supplies the screenshot assets; a separate image-comparison tool analyzes the two images. One documented comparison API example accepts a live URL compared with another URL or a previously named baseline. It can return a changed-pixel percentage, boxes locating changed regions, and a diff image. Its documentation is an example of a separate service and should not be read as a Microlink comparison endpoint. Comparison API example.
For consistent alignment, that API’s documentation applies capture parameters to both sides of a comparison. Its threshold controls the percentage of changed pixels required for a positive changed result. A higher threshold can tolerate small dynamic changes such as a clock or carousel, but also makes smaller real changes less likely to trigger the result. Comparison parameters.

Read results as evidence, not a verdict
- The changed-pixel percentage describes the image difference under the tool’s comparison rules; it does not say whether the change is correct.
- Region boxes help you find where pixels changed, while the diff image visualizes those areas.
- Compare both original screenshots with the diff. Text updates, dynamic content, responsive layout, and mismatched capture states can all create visible differences.
- Do not treat every difference as a regression or rely on one pass/fail threshold without review.
Choose a comparison workflow for the job
For a one-off check, save a pair of screenshots and compare those files. For recurring QA, consider whether your workflow needs persistent named baselines, changed-region details, adjustable thresholds, automation, or team review. The documented comparison API supports direct and stored-baseline comparisons and describes percentages, regions, and a diff image; those capabilities should not be assumed for every vendor. Microlink’s screenshot guide, checked in 2026, states that the API works without an API key and offers 25 requests per day. The same guide describes production plans as unlocking configurable TTL, stale-while-revalidate caching, custom filenames, custom headers, and proxy. These service details can change, so check the current documentation before designing a workflow around the quota or plan features. Microlink screenshot guide.
Common comparison problems and fixes
The diff shows widespread changes after a small edit
Check that both screenshots use the same viewport or device, capture scope, color scheme, route, and page state. A different viewport or content state can change layout across much of the image even when the code change is small.

The result flags a clock, carousel, or other dynamic area
First inspect whether the change matters to the check. If the comparison tool exposes a threshold, raising it can tolerate a small amount of pixel change, but may also conceal small regressions. Use the diff image and original captures to confirm what moved.
The screenshot includes browser-frame decoration
Remove Microlink’s frame overlay for pixel-accurate page QA; its frame and background are outside the page and can contaminate the comparison.
The workflow is slow when only an image is needed
Try Microlink’s meta: false option if the workflow does not need metadata extraction. The guide describes this as usually its biggest speedup for screenshot-only requests.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. For automated comparisons, save the returned image as the baseline or new capture, then send both files to your separate diff tool. ScreenshotNeo does not need to replace the comparison step.
Example cURL request, using the target URL shown in the product documentation:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for capture parameters and response details. Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before capture; those cleanup steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Microlink itself create a pixel-diff report?
The reviewed Microlink documentation establishes screenshot capture and asset delivery. The comparison API described here is a separate service, so use another visual-diff tool to analyze saved Microlink images.
Does every visible difference indicate a website bug?
No. Content, responsive layout, dynamic elements, or inconsistent capture states can produce differences. Inspect the source screenshots and diff together.
