Compare streaming services by checking the legal dramas and original movies you actually want in your country, then noting whether each is included in a subscription, free with ads, or available only to rent or buy. There is no reliable global winner: catalogs, rights, plans, and prices vary by market and change over time.

Start with titles, not service reputations

A large library or a reputation for strong originals does not tell you whether a service has the films and series you want. Make a shortlist of a few must-watch legal dramas and original movies, and use the same list for every service you compare.

If you do not have specific titles in mind, choose a consistent sample that reflects your tastes—for example, courtroom dramas, legal thrillers, and original feature films. A comparison is only useful when each service is checked against the same titles and the same country.

Check where each title is available and how you can watch it

Set a streaming availability guide to your country, search for each title, and record both the provider and the access type. JustWatch says it lists legal offers across platforms, including paid subscriptions, free streaming, ad-supported streaming, rentals, and purchases: JustWatch support.

Use the subscription filter when asking whether a title comes with a subscription. Check buy and rent options separately: a title may be watchable without signing up for another monthly plan, but a rental or purchase has its own cost and terms. JustWatch describes these filters in its U.S. streaming guide.

A listing in a guide is a useful lead, not a permanent promise. Confirm the title and offer on the streaming service’s own page before subscribing or paying.

Compare the real cost of your shortlist

After checking availability, compare what it would cost to watch the titles you chose over the period you expect to watch them. Count the plan actually needed, any required add-on, and any rental or purchase charges. A title that requires a separate rental should not be counted as subscription-included coverage.

  • Subscription: Note the current plan that includes the title, rather than assuming every plan does.
  • Free or ad-supported: Record that the offer includes ads and whether it is free, rather than treating it like an ad-free paid subscription.
  • Rental: Include the rental charge and consider how long the rental remains available, as stated by the retailer.
  • Purchase: Include the one-time purchase price and distinguish it from an ongoing subscription cost.

Do not compare an advertised starting price as though it were the price required for your shortlist. Plan features and current prices need to be checked directly with the provider in your market.

Use Hulu’s U.S. collections as an example, not a ranking

Hulu’s official U.S. legal-drama collection lists Reasonable Doubt, Law & Order, Damages, Boston Legal, and For the People. The page showed plans starting at $12.49 per month when reviewed in 2026: Hulu legal dramas.

Hulu’s official U.S. legal-movie collection includes Brian Banks and Indictment: The McMartin Trial. Its page showed plans starting at $11.99 per month when reviewed in 2026: Hulu legal movies.

Those are separate, page-specific U.S. price snapshots, not a dependable comparison of Hulu plan tiers or a guarantee that every listed title is still available. Check the current offer on Hulu’s plan and title pages. The example demonstrates why it helps to verify the exact titles and offer rather than infer a universal price from a genre collection.

Account for country and practical requirements

Availability depends on both the title and the viewer’s country. A U.S.-specific listing cannot establish what is available elsewhere, and a service’s catalog can differ across regions. JustWatch’s cited guide is explicitly for the United States, so set any availability guide to your own country before comparing.

Once you have narrowed the choice by title coverage and cost, check the household details that could affect the decision. Verify the current terms directly with each service instead of assuming they are comparable:

  • Whether the plan includes ads
  • How many simultaneous streams it allows
  • Whether downloads are available and subject to limits
  • Supported video quality and accessibility features
  • Cancellation terms and billing period

A repeatable comparison checklist

  1. Choose a country and title shortlist. Include must-watch legal dramas and original movies, or create a consistent sample if you are exploring.
  2. Search each title in a country-specific guide. JustWatch says its listings cover paid subscriptions, free and ad-supported streaming, rentals, and purchases.
  3. Record the exact provider and access type. Keep subscription-included titles separate from free, rental, and purchase offers.
  4. Confirm the offer with the provider. Check the service’s own title or plan page for current availability and pricing.
  5. Compare effective cost for your viewing period. Include necessary plans, add-ons, rentals, and purchases rather than relying on a headline starting price.
  6. Check household constraints and recheck before signup. Verify ads, streams, downloads, quality, accessibility, and cancellation terms where they matter to you.

Repeat the availability check shortly before you subscribe: titles, rights, plans, and displayed prices can change.
