There is no universal cheapest way to buy a Samsung phone: the best deal depends on the exact model and storage, the plan you need, the credits you qualify for, and whether you must return the phone. Compare the same phone across TELUS, Samsung Canada, and other carriers, then total device and service costs over the same period. A low monthly phone payment by itself is not a reliable measure of value.
Compare the total cost, not the advertised phone payment
For each offer, calculate the cost across a common period—often the financing term shown by the seller. Include required plan charges as well as the phone. Keep the device total and service total visible as separate subtotals, so you can see whether a deal is attractive only because it requires a plan you would not otherwise choose.
Use this calculation:
Total over the comparison period = upfront device and setup charges + required plan charges + monthly device payments + any end-of-term amount if you keep the phone + applicable taxes and fees − credits you are eligible to receive.

Use the same province, customer situation, and comparison period for every option. A new customer, an existing customer upgrading, and a buyer bringing a trade-in may see different offers. Do not subtract a promotion until you have confirmed its eligibility, timing, and whether it applies as an upfront discount or recurring bill credit.

Record the same details for every offer
- Phone: Exact Samsung model, storage, condition (new or certified pre-owned), and outright price.
- Device payments: Financing term, monthly amount, down payment, interest, promotional credits, and any deferred or phone-return amount.
- Plan: Required monthly price after applicable conditions, data allowance and speed policy, roaming, hotspot, and any bundle or autopay requirements.
- Credits and trade-in: Eligible trade-in model and condition, activation or upgrade requirement, expiry, stacking rules, and whether the credit is upfront or monthly.
- Other costs: Setup or handling charges, applicable taxes, and relevant provincial fees.
- Fit: Coverage where you live and travel, the features you need, and whether you want to keep the phone or return and upgrade it.
Check what TELUS’s advertised device price requires
TELUS’s Samsung catalog says some displayed monthly prices require select plans and TELUS Premium Financing. The catalog describes 24-month TELUS Easy Payment at 0% interest on approved credit, with $0 upfront; taxes are due upfront. Those terms apply to the offers that specify them, not automatically to every Samsung device or promotion. TELUS’s savings footnotes may include Bring-It-Back bonuses or top-ups, Easy Payment discounts, and promotions, so check what makes up the displayed saving and whether you qualify. Also check the plan’s conditions. TELUS says its price lock applies to eligible monthly plan charges before taxes, government fees, discounts, promotions, and bill credits; add-on and pay-per-use prices are not guaranteed for the lock period. For a bring-your-own-device comparison, TELUS lets customers select a plan and indicate they are bringing their own phone. Its BYOD page also describes access to additional deals on specified 5G Standard and 5G+ Complete plans for customers who own a phone or pay in full for a TELUS phone. Compare the full plan details, not just the device price. TELUS notes that actual speeds vary with the device, configuration, network, traffic, and environmental conditions. Compare an unlocked phone with carrier financing fairly
An unlocked phone’s price is not directly comparable with a carrier’s monthly device payment. For the unlocked option, add the plan you would use over the same period. For a carrier offer, include the required plan and any payment due if you keep the phone. If you already have a suitable plan, show the device cost separately: the relevant comparison may be the unlocked phone’s purchase price against the carrier’s device payments and any required plan change.

Rogers says Canadian phones sold after December 1, 2017 come unlocked; phones bought before then or outside Canada may need checking. Compare Samsung Canada and other-carrier promotions by their terms
Samsung Canada’s offers page is a separate comparison option for direct purchases. It says financing availability, product eligibility, and whether financing can be combined with a promotion depend on the specific offer, and can vary by product, province, and financing provider. Check the active offer for the exact model and storage, and confirm whether codes or discounts combine; the offers page does not establish a stable price or guarantee that promotions stack. Rogers: include the plan and return terms
Rogers promotions illustrate why a device-payment headline is not the full cost: a displayed financing offer references a 24-month 5G+ Ultimate plan and returning the phone, while the promotions page says a $40 setup charge may apply. These are offer-specific details, not terms to assume for every Samsung deal. Read the exact promotion’s fine print and include the plan, any setup charge, and the consequence of keeping the device. Bell: qualify trade-in credits and confirm live terms
Bell’s promotions page describes up to $400 extra trade-in credit toward specified Samsung models. The offer has conditions, including an eligible device trade-in, a new activation or upgrade, participating locations, and a $40 handling charge. Treat the maximum as an offer ceiling, not a guaranteed discount: confirm that your trade-in and transaction qualify and whether the credit changes the upfront price or bill payments. Bell’s BYOD and phone-plans page offers a route to compare a plan with a new phone against bringing your own. Its page also says eSIM compatibility may vary for models purchased outside Canada. Because the page’s reviewed material included mixed deadline text, verify the current offer and total at checkout rather than relying on a captured promotional amount. Account for returns, upgrades, and trade-ins
A phone-return arrangement can lower the monthly device payment by leaving an amount due if you keep the handset. Compare both outcomes: the total if you return the phone in the required condition, and the total if you keep it and pay the stated balance. Also check what happens if you cancel early or upgrade before the financing term ends; do not assume that a future upgrade removes an outstanding balance.
For trade-in offers, verify the eligible model and condition, required activation or upgrade, participating sales channel, deadline, and stacking rules. Apply only the credit that your transaction qualifies for. If it is paid as monthly bill credits, account for how many months you must remain eligible to receive the full amount.
