Start with the legal supplier named on the cloud account and invoice, then check the account’s GSTIN and address. The same 24/7 YouTube workflow can receive different GST treatment depending on the billing entity and tax profile; GST alone does not make two cloud bills comparable. You must also align runtime, stream configuration and delivery assumptions before comparing costs.
Why the billing entity matters
A data-center region does not tell you which legal entity bills your account. Check the supplier name in the provider’s billing settings and on the tax invoice, along with the billing country and currency.

AWS India
Amazon Web Services says GST applies to cloud-service sales made by AWS India to customers in India. Its guidance describes 9% CGST plus 9% SGST for customers in Delhi, and 18% IGST for customers in other states. AWS advises registered business customers to enter their GSTIN and registered address in tax settings so it can issue the appropriate invoice. Whether a business can claim input tax credit depends on local law and its circumstances. AWS India GST guidance (updated March 2026).
Google Cloud
Google’s India GST treatment depends on the contracting entity. Its guidance says India customers contracted with Google Asia Pacific are charged 0% GST if they provide a valid GSTIN, or 18% if they do not. Services sold by Google Cloud India Private Limited to customers with India billing addresses are subject to 18% regardless of GSTIN status. Confirm the entity shown for your account and on your invoice; do not infer it from the region where a stream runs. Google Cloud tax guidance.

Google says migrated India accounts billed by Google Cloud India Private Limited are invoiced in INR. Its migration FAQ says customers without a Tax ID are charged GST based on the billing-address state. Check your account tax profile and invoice rather than assuming the arrangement. What to align before comparing invoices
Build the comparison around the same workload and billing context. A continuous YouTube channel is not necessarily equivalent to a cloud live-stream service that encodes, packages, and distributes video to viewers.
| Compare | What to record | Why it affects the comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Supplier and billing country | Legal entity named in the account and on the invoice | Google’s stated India GST treatment varies by contracting entity; AWS’s cited guidance concerns AWS India. |
| Tax profile | GSTIN validity, registered address, billing address, and tax settings | These details affect the treatment described in provider guidance and the tax documentation issued. |
| Currency | Invoice currency and any applicable surcharge | Google says migrated India accounts billed by Google Cloud India Private Limited are billed in INR; verify the actual invoice before comparing totals. |
| Active runtime | Hours active in the billing month, including active-but-idle time | Google Live Stream API charges by active channel duration, and a channel can count as active without an input stream. |
| Stream configuration | Input and output resolutions, codec, number of outputs, and distribution endpoints | Google pricing varies by resolution and treats distribution streams as additional outputs. AWS architectures can include separate encoding, packaging/origination, and CDN delivery components. |
| Delivery workload | Expected viewers, bitrate, delivery region, traffic, and cache assumptions | Delivery can be a material cost component, and estimates depend on the specific workload and region. |
How to compare the bills step by step
- Identify the supplier. In each provider account and invoice, note the legal entity and billing country. For Google, establish whether the account is contracted with Google Asia Pacific or Google Cloud India Private Limited.
- Verify the tax profile. Check the GSTIN, registered address, billing address, and tax settings saved to the account. Compare those with the invoice rather than assuming the tax result from the service region.
- Define one shared workload. Record monthly active hours, input and output resolution, codec, extra distribution outputs, expected bitrate and viewers, and delivery region. Google’s Live Stream API charges for active channel runtime and configuration; distribution streams are additional outputs. Its active duration has a ten-minute minimum and is then rounded up to the nearest minute, and the API has no free usage tier. See Google Live Stream API pricing.
- Include the full AWS service path. Account for any encoding, packaging or origination, and CDN delivery required by the architecture—not just an encoder. AWS publishes an example of $69.74 per hour for a one-hour event with 1,000 viewers, but it assumes US-East-1, specified bitrate and cache conditions, and standard pricing. It is not an India monthly quote or a direct estimate for sending a stream to YouTube. See AWS live-streaming architecture and example.
- Separate estimate, tax, and billed total. Compare the pre-tax recurring estimate, GST line, invoice currency, any applicable surcharge, and actual billed amount as separate items. Use current provider calculators for your defined configuration, then reconcile estimates with the final invoice.
- Keep tax records and check credit eligibility. If registered for GST, retain the tax invoice and confirm input tax credit eligibility with an appropriate tax professional. AWS notes that eligibility depends on local law and circumstances.
Why a single monthly GST figure would mislead
There is no defensible provider-to-provider monthly total without a specified stream configuration, viewer traffic, delivery region, account entity, and tax profile. Runtime also matters: Google bills for active channel duration, including time when the channel has no input. On AWS, the total depends on which services your architecture uses and the delivery workload. The published AWS hourly example cannot be multiplied into a 24/7 India quote because its region and workload assumptions are specific to that example.
For a useful estimate, enter the same monthly runtime, resolutions, outputs, bitrate, viewer and delivery assumptions into each provider’s current pricing tools. Treat the result as a pre-invoice estimate, then verify the final tax treatment and currency against the account settings and issued invoice.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your requirement is simply to keep uploaded videos looping as a YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a simpler alternative to assembling and comparing an encoding, packaging, and delivery stack. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops it from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are accepted in India; cards are available worldwide. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free day.
