Compare AI chip stocks by the businesses that actually sell into AI infrastructure, not by the size of their AI headlines. Look at AI-related revenue and growth, customer and program concentration, margins and cash generation, what the share price assumes about future results, and the risks that could interrupt demand or delivery. NVIDIA, AMD, and Broadcom have different business mixes, and owning several names may still leave you exposed to the same hyperscaler spending cycle.

Start with each company’s place in the AI supply chain

AI infrastructure includes more than processors. It also depends on networking, data movement, systems, and the capacity to manufacture and deploy equipment. A company’s reported business segments do not always isolate AI sales, so identify what it sells and which reported figures actually describe that exposure before comparing growth.

Company Relevant products and business mix What to watch when comparing
NVIDIA Its FY2027 second-quarter filing says revenue growth in the quarter and first half was driven by Data Center products for accelerated computing and AI. Blackwell made up the majority of system shipments; Vera Rubin began production shipments in the third quarter of FY2027. Data Center results include products for accelerated computing and AI. Track supply constraints and whether customers can provide the capital, infrastructure, and deployment capacity needed to take delivery. NVIDIA’s FY2027 second-quarter Form 10-Q
AMD AMD’s FY2025 Form 10-K describes demand for Instinct MI350X accelerators among hyperscale customers, OEMs, and ODMs. Its data-center portfolio also includes EPYC server processors, networking products, and the previewed Helios rack-scale platform. Do not treat AMD as an accelerator-only business. Separate AI accelerator evidence from results for the broader data-center portfolio, and note the fiscal period behind each figure. AMD’s FY2025 Form 10-K
Broadcom Its FY2025 Form 10-K describes custom AI accelerators, or XPUs, alongside Ethernet switching and routing, network interface cards, optical components, and systems. Broadcom also has semiconductor businesses outside AI and an infrastructure software business. Consolidated sales and earnings combine multiple businesses. Do not read them as a direct measure of AI semiconductor performance without isolating the relevant disclosures. Broadcom’s FY2025 Form 10-K
Marvell A sector overview published October 1, 2026, includes Marvell among designers of AI chips or components. Marvell is a possible peer to investigate, but the primary filings reviewed for this comparison do not establish a detailed current financial comparison for it. Kiplinger’s October 1, 2026, sector overview

Compare revenue growth on a like-for-like basis

Begin with reported revenue, then determine how much of it comes from the business most relevant to AI infrastructure. Companies can define segments differently, and management’s AI-specific measures may not match reported segment totals. Keep those figures separate rather than treating them as interchangeable.

  • Record the fiscal period and its end date for every figure. A fiscal-year result and a recent quarter are not comparable growth rates.
  • Identify whether a number refers to a reported segment, an end market, or a management-defined AI measure.
  • Check whether growth is concentrated in a few customers, programs, or product generations. A strong headline rate can conceal dependence on a small number of deployments.
  • Separate recognized revenue from orders, supply commitments, or expectations. For example, NVIDIA reported $279 billion in supply and capacity commitments as of July 26, 2026, up from $119 billion the prior quarter. These are company-reported commitments, not recognized revenue or a guarantee of future demand. NVIDIA’s FY2027 second-quarter Form 10-Q

When periods, segment definitions, and business mixes differ, show the underlying figures with their labels instead of presenting a single league table that implies a strict ranking.

Read margins alongside product mix and unusual charges

Gross margin indicates how much revenue remains after cost of sales, but it does not by itself show operating efficiency, cash generation, or the profitability of AI products specifically. Product mix can move reported margins, while one-off or unusual charges can make a period look unlike the underlying business. Operating margin and free cash flow add useful context, but they also need consistent periods and definitions.

Company and period Reported margin or charge Context for comparison
NVIDIA, FY2027 second quarter and first half Gross margin was 75.0% in each reported period. The filing attributed improvement in part to product mix. NVIDIA also said a $4.5 billion H20 excess-inventory and purchase-obligation charge affected the prior-year first-half comparison; account for that when comparing periods. NVIDIA’s FY2027 second-quarter Form 10-Q
AMD, fiscal 2025 Gross margin was 50%, up one percentage point from 2024. AMD said approximately $440 million in net inventory and related charges were associated with U.S. government export controls on MI308 products. Keep this period-specific charge in view when interpreting the reported result. AMD’s FY2025 Form 10-K
Broadcom Not stated in the reviewed company filing evidence for this comparison. Broadcom’s mixed semiconductor and infrastructure software businesses make consolidated margins insufficient to isolate AI-specific economics. Consult its segment disclosures before drawing conclusions. Broadcom’s FY2025 Form 10-K

These figures describe different fiscal periods and business mixes; they are not a direct peer ranking. For each company, look for whether the relevant segment’s margins are stable as sales scale, whether disclosed charges are recurring or exceptional, and whether reported earnings convert into cash.

Test what the valuation already assumes

A popular AI stock is not automatically an attractively valued one. Valuation asks how much investors pay for a company’s current or expected earnings, sales, or cash flow—and what future performance is required to justify that price.

  • Price-to-earnings (P/E): Compare trailing P/E with forward P/E, but label the earnings period. Forward P/E depends on estimates, which can change.
  • Enterprise value to sales or operating earnings: Sales multiples can help when earnings are temporarily distorted, but they can obscure differences in profitability and cash needs.
  • Free-cash-flow yield: Compare free cash flow with the company’s market value, using the same definition and period across peers. Check how much investment is required to support growth.

For every multiple, use a common market-data date and consistent fiscal or forward periods. Distinguish reported earnings from adjusted earnings, and explain how the issuer defines any adjusted measure being used. Then ask what growth, margins, and cash conversion the share price requires. A slower-growth or lower-margin scenario can show how sensitive that valuation is to execution.

No synchronized share prices, consensus estimates, or peer multiples are available for a live ranking here. That means this comparison cannot establish which stock is currently cheaper, more expensive, or better valued; those claims require same-date prices and consistently defined financial periods.

Compare the risks that can disrupt demand or delivery

Shared exposure to hyperscaler spending

Several AI chip stocks can depend on the same large customers and data-center investment cycle. A portfolio holding multiple designers may therefore have less underlying diversification than its ticker count suggests. Kiplinger’s October 1, 2026, sector overview frames AI as a supply chain rather than a single industry and warns about this shared spending exposure: Kiplinger’s AI supply-chain overview.

Customer concentration and deployment timing

NVIDIA reports concentration among direct customers and notes that access to capital, data-center land, power, and construction capacity can affect when customers deploy infrastructure. A customer can intend to spend while still facing practical limits on how quickly it can build and bring systems online. NVIDIA’s FY2027 second-quarter Form 10-Q

Supply commitments, manufacturing, and execution

Commitments made to support expected demand can help secure capacity, but forecasting errors, inventory exposure, manufacturing yields, costs, and delivery timing can all affect results. NVIDIA discusses these risks in its quarterly filing. AMD identifies manufacturing-yield risk as well; a product that is late or difficult to manufacture at scale may not deliver the expected revenue or margin. NVIDIA’s FY2027 second-quarter Form 10-Q AMD’s FY2025 Form 10-K

Export controls and program dependence

Export rules can affect which products a company may sell into particular markets and can create inventory or related costs, as AMD’s MI308-related charges illustrate. AMD also says semi-custom SoC revenue depends on customer projects and on the success of customers’ products. Broadcom’s combination of custom AI silicon, other semiconductor markets, and infrastructure software creates a different exposure: its consolidated results should not be attributed to AI alone. A practical checklist for comparing candidates

  1. Map the products: Which reported segments and products actually sell into AI infrastructure, and which other businesses are included in the company’s totals?
  2. Check the growth: What are the fiscal period, segment definition, and customer or program concentration behind each growth figure?
  3. Inspect profitability and cash: What do gross margin, operating margin, and free cash flow show after product-mix effects and disclosed charges?
  4. Stress-test valuation: Using one market-data date and consistent periods, what growth, margins, and cash generation do the multiples imply? How do they change in a slower-growth or lower-margin case?
  5. Identify interruption risks: Could hyperscaler spending, customer infrastructure, manufacturing yields, export rules, competition, or product execution delay or reduce results?

This framework supports comparison, not an individual investment recommendation. A sound conclusion depends on current, consistently measured financial and market data, as well as the investor’s own circumstances.
