To clear Google app history, open the app’s profile menu and tap Search history. Delete one search, a day or date range, or all time. If a recent search still appears beneath the search bar on an iPhone or iPad, clear the separate on-device history; if you mean websites you visited, clear your browser history too.
Choose which Google history to delete
“Google app history” can mean searches saved to your Google Account, recent searches stored on the device, or pages recorded in a browser. These are separate records, so deleting one does not necessarily delete the others.

Delete Google Account search history in the app
Android
- Open the Google app.
- Tap your profile picture or initial, then tap Search history.
- Choose the search item, day, date range, or all-time option you want to delete, and follow the on-screen prompts.
To stop future activity from being saved under the relevant account control, go to Search history > Controls and turn off Web & App Activity. Google presents Turn off and Turn off and delete activity as separate choices: use the latter if you also want to remove existing activity covered by that control.

iPhone and iPad
- Open the Google app.
- Tap your profile picture or initial, then tap Search history.
- Choose an individual item, day, custom date range, or all-time deletion, then follow the prompts.
The account history controls also let you turn off Web & App Activity or choose the separate option to turn it off and delete activity. Google’s platform-specific steps are in its iPhone and iPad Search history instructions.
Clear recent searches stored on an iPhone or iPad
If the search is still listed below the Google app search bar, remove it from the device separately from account history.

- Tap the Google app search bar, then tap View all.
- Swipe left on the search you want to remove and tap Delete.
- To remove all past searches stored on the device, tap Clear all, then Clear on-device history.
Google notes that app activity may remain on the device after My Activity entries are deleted, and deleting activity in the app might not delete the corresponding My Activity entry. The Google app instructions for iPhone and iPad describe this on-device option.
Remove a recent search shown in the Android search bar
For a query displayed as a recent search in the Google app search bar, touch and hold the query and tap Delete. This removes that visible recent query; use the app’s Search history controls when you want to manage account-saved activity. Google’s Search history help covers both account history and recent searches.

Delete Search history on a computer
For searches saved to your Google Account, open Search history in My Activity, choose the activity or time period, and delete it. This does not clear visits recorded by your browser. To remove those, open the history controls in Chrome or the browser you used; Google notes that visits to web pages from the Google app can also be saved in Chrome history. Stop or limit future account history
Turn off the relevant activity control
In the Google app’s Search history controls, turn off Web & App Activity if that is the control shown for your account. Turning off a control affects future saving under that control; it is distinct from deleting activity already saved. If you want both, choose Google’s Turn off and delete activity option where available.

Set automatic deletion
Google lists automatic deletion periods of 3 months, 18 months, and 36 months in its Android Search history instructions. These are available configuration choices, not a guarantee that every record in every Google app or browser is included. Review the activity type and account named in the setting before selecting a period. See Google’s Search history help.

Why searches may still appear after deletion
The searches were stored somewhere else
Deleting Google Account activity does not itself clear browser history. On iPhone and iPad, recent searches in the search bar may be stored on-device, separately from My Activity. Check the storage location that matches what you still see: app Search history, on-device history, or browser history.

You are signed out or using more than one account
Google says searches made while signed out may be saved on the device. When multiple accounts are used at once, activity may be saved in the default account. Check the profile shown in the app and the account selected in My Activity.
Your settings use a different label
Google is gradually rolling out updated Search services settings. These settings cover services including Search, Maps, Shopping, Flights, Hotels, Translate, and News. In the updated controls, Search Services History and Personalized Recommendations are separate; accounts that do not yet show those controls may still use Web & App Activity. Menu labels can therefore differ by account and app version. Follow the current labels in your account rather than assuming the same menu appears for everyone. Chrome, Gemini Apps, Google Assistant, and YouTube have their own settings. Changing a Search history control does not necessarily manage activity in those products; Google’s Search services settings explains which services are included.
What deletion does—and does not—promise
Google says, “Once you erase your search history, you can’t get it back.” Its help also explains that deletion starts removal from the product and system: activity is first removed from view and may stop being used for personalization, after which Google begins a process designed to delete it from storage systems. Google notes that limited data may be retained longer for business or legal requirements. Do not treat the on-screen deletion as a promise of instantaneous removal from every system.
