For loose, dry lint or dust, switch off your Samsung phone, unplug it, inspect the USB-C port with a flashlight, and use a soft brush gently on debris you can see. Keep metal tools and liquids out of the port, and do not force anything into it. If the issue is a moisture warning rather than dry debris, leave the port empty and let it dry before charging.
Clean visible, dry debris carefully
- Unplug and power off the phone. Remove the case only if it helps you see the port without pressing on it. Samsung advises powering down before cleaning a device. Samsung device-cleaning guidance.
- Inspect the port with a flashlight. Dust, lint, or debris can keep the cable from making proper contact with the charging terminals, according to Samsung’s charging troubleshooting guidance.
- Only address debris that is visible and loose. Samsung recommends carefully removing visible debris without metal objects or liquids, and its battery guidance says to use a soft brush for a foreign object in the USB port. Use a soft brush lightly; do not push it deep into the port, scrape the connector, or force compacted lint. Samsung does not specify a brush model or endorse a particular product.
- Inspect again before reconnecting. Plug in only when the port is dry and unobstructed. If the cable does not seat normally or charging is still unreliable, stop and seek service.
Samsung’s instructions do not approve a toothpick, needle, metal pick, cotton swab, vacuum, or canned-air product for removing debris. If getting lint out would require probing the port, leave it to Samsung support or a service center.
If the phone shows a moisture warning
Treat a moisture alert differently from dry-lint cleaning. Disconnect the cable and do not insert anything into the port or connect a cable to test it. Samsung says moisture can disable charging as a protective measure, and warns that inserting an object can damage the port. Samsung’s moisture-in-port guidance.
- Gently shake the phone to help remove water, then leave the port open to dry naturally.
- Do not use a hair dryer or other external heat. Samsung’s US guidance describes roughly one to two hours for natural evaporation, while Samsung India says drying may take several hours; the time varies. Wait until the port is dry and the alert has cleared before plugging in again. Samsung India drying guidance.
- If the phone supports wireless charging, Samsung says it may be used while the port dries. Make sure the device itself is dry before placing it on a wireless charger.
If the moisture alert remains after the port has dried, contact Samsung support or visit a service center.

What not to put in the USB-C port
- No metal or sharp tools. They can damage the port, and Samsung explicitly excludes metal objects when removing visible debris.
- No liquid or cleaning solution. Keep moisture and disinfectant out of phone openings.
- No compressed air. Samsung cautions against using it to clean or dry a device.
- No external heat. Do not use a hair dryer or another heat source to speed drying.
- No cable charging while wet or while the warning remains. Wait for the port to dry and the alert to clear.

When to contact Samsung
Stop cleaning and contact Samsung support or a service center if lint is compacted or cannot be removed without inserting a tool, the connector or port looks damaged, a moisture alert persists after drying, or charging remains unreliable after inspection.
