To clean a Samsung dishwasher filter, first confirm in your model’s manual that the filter is removable: Samsung uses different filter designs, and some models have no removable filter. For removable designs, turn off the dishwasher, take out the filter according to your model’s release mechanism, rinse and gently brush it, then reinstall every component securely before running the dishwasher.
Check which filter your Samsung dishwasher has
Samsung’s instructions vary by model and market. Some dishwashers have a removable micro-filter assembly; others use a fine filter, sometimes alongside a separate micro filter. Some models do not have a removable filter. Compare the filter under the lower rack with the instructions in your exact model’s user manual. Do not pull or pry at a filter that the manual does not describe as removable. On models without a removable filter, Samsung US advises wiping the dishwasher interior, including the accessible drain area, rather than trying to extract a filter: Samsung US cleaning instructions.

- Turn off the dishwasher. Open the door and remove the lower rack if your model’s procedure requires it.
- Unlock and remove the filter as the manual specifies. In Samsung’s US micro-filter procedure, turn the filter handle counterclockwise to unlock and lift off the cover, then remove the micro filter underneath. In the UK fine-filter procedure, turn the filter counterclockwise to unfasten it and lift it out. If your model has a separate fine filter, remove that component too. These are examples for the described filter arrangements, not universal release instructions.
- Rinse and clear debris. Rinse the removed parts under running water. For stubborn debris, Samsung US recommends gentle brushing with a toothbrush. Avoid force that could damage the filter.
- Reassemble in the correct order. Put every filter component back where it belongs. For the described US and UK arrangements, turn the handle or filter clockwise until secured. Follow your model manual if its assembly differs.
Samsung Canada describes an overnight soak in distilled white vinegar for the filter and door in its regional cleaning guidance. That is not part of the general rinse-and-brush procedure described by Samsung US and UK, so use it only if the instructions for your model and market call for it: Samsung Canada cleaning guidance.

Regularly clean the filter mesh to maintain optimal performance and prevent dirt buildup. Additionally, it is recommended to inspect the filter mesh periodically for damage or wear and replace if necessary.
Check the filter before running a cycle
A filter installed in the wrong order or left unsecured can cause errors and problems such as draining or overflow issues. Samsung warns against operating the dishwasher without its filters installed. Check that all components are present and seated correctly before replacing the lower rack and using the appliance. When drain-pump cleaning is a separate task
Removing the filter does not mean the drain pump should automatically be removed or cleaned. Samsung notes that pump access is model-dependent: some models allow access after filter removal, while others do not have a removable pump. Check your user manual before attempting pump maintenance.

How often should you clean the filter?
The Samsung US and UK guidance cited here does not set one cleaning interval for every dishwasher. Use the maintenance schedule in your exact model’s manual rather than assuming a universal schedule.
