How to Claim PS Plus Monthly Games on PS5 and PS4

Add each monthly game to your PlayStation account’s library before its offer changes. You do not need to finish downloading it before then: PlayStation says you can download and play a claimed monthly game later, as long as your PlayStation Plus membership is active.

Claim the monthly game while it is offered

Monthly games are offered on a rotating basis. To keep access to a title as a monthly-game benefit, add it to your library while it is part of the current offer. Starting or completing the download is not the same as claiming it for later.

On PS5

From the Games home screen, scroll right and select PlayStation Plus.
Open the Benefits tab and choose Monthly Games.
Highlight the game you want and select it to start the download.

On PS4

From the function screen, scroll right and select PlayStation Plus.
Choose Monthly Games and highlight the game.
Select Add to Library to claim it. Choose Download if you want to install it now.

Do you have to download a game before the offer changes?

No. The important step is adding the game to your library while it is offered; the download can happen later. PlayStation’s official US games FAQ says: “You can add the monthly games to your game library to download and play at any time as long as you have an active membership plan.” See PlayStation’s games FAQ.

This is a membership benefit, not a permanent purchase. You need an active PlayStation Plus membership to play a claimed monthly game. If your membership lapses, you cannot play it until membership is active again.

Can you start the download remotely?

Yes. PlayStation says you can start a download to a PS5 or PS4 using a web browser or the PlayStation App. Its support page links to separate browser and app instructions; follow those guides for the current device-specific controls rather than relying on console menu labels.

Monthly games are different from catalog games

Monthly games are a benefit included with Essential, Extra, and Premium. They should not be confused with the Game Catalog, which is an Extra and Premium benefit, or the Classics Catalog, which is a Premium benefit. Catalog titles may have end dates and be removed from the service; that is different from a monthly offer changing after you have claimed its game. What PS4 players should know

PlayStation’s US Important Notice says that “In January 2026, PS4® titles will be added less regularly to our PlayStation® Plus Monthly Game line-ups and Game Catalogue updates.” This describes a change in release frequency, not an end to PS4 support or a promise that PS4 games will never appear. Check the current monthly offer for the titles available to claim.
