To claim a PlayStation Plus monthly game, open the Monthly Games section on your console and select the game. On PS5, choose Download; on PS4, choose Add to Library and then Download. Monthly games are available at no extra cost while your PlayStation Plus membership is active.

Claim and download a monthly game on PS5

From Games home, scroll right to PlayStation Plus.
Open the Benefits tab and select Monthly Games.
Highlight the game you want and select Download.

Sony’s support guide describes Monthly Games as titles you can download and play at no extra cost during an active PlayStation Plus membership. New games are added every calendar month. See Sony’s instructions for accessing PlayStation Plus games.

Claim and download a monthly game on PS4

From the function screen, scroll right to PlayStation Plus.
Select Monthly Games.
Highlight the game and choose Add to Library.
After it is added, select Download.

The key difference is that the PS4 route explicitly includes Add to Library before downloading. On either console, make sure you are in Monthly Games, not the Game Catalog or Classics Catalog.

Start a download remotely from a browser or the PlayStation App

Sony also allows you to start a selected PlayStation Plus game download to a PS5 or PS4 through a web browser or the PlayStation App. Remote downloading is a way to start the download; it does not replace the membership or monthly-game claim requirements. Your console may need to be linked or activated for your account, with automatic downloads configured. Monthly Games are different from the game catalogs

PlayStation Plus lists Monthly Games as a membership benefit for Essential, Extra, and Premium. Extra also includes the Game Catalog, while Premium includes the Game Catalog and Classics Catalog, along with other benefits Sony lists. Those catalogs are separate from the monthly-game section and have different access terms. See Sony’s PlayStation Plus support page for its current plan and benefit details.

If a monthly game is missing or will not download

Check that the console or app is signed into the PlayStation account you intend to use.
Confirm that you selected the title from Monthly Games and, on PS4, completed Add to Library.
To find content already associated with your account, check Game Library or Purchased. Sony’s download guide covers PS5, PS4, and the PlayStation App.
For remote downloads, check that the console is linked or activated and automatic downloads are configured.
If the title still is not available, consult PlayStation Support and the current PlayStation Plus listing for your account’s region. Sony’s procedural guide does not document every regional, title, account, or entitlement issue.

The lineup and claim period can change by month and region, and console menu labels may change with software updates. Check the current listing for your region rather than relying on an older game’s availability.
