Compare how each design stays in place
Workout earbuds may rely on the ear tip alone, add a wing or earwing that rests beneath an ear ridge, or use an ear hook around the ear. The right choice depends on your ears, comfort and the movement involved. The available sources do not establish a universal winner.

Find a comfortable tip size and position each earbud
A bud that feels uncomfortable or insecure may need a different tip size or adjustment. Check both ears rather than assuming the same size or position will work equally well on each side.

Powerbeats Fit
- Choose a tip size that feels comfortable.
- Insert the earbud and rotate it backward.
- Tuck the wingtip beneath the upper-ear ridge.
- Use the ear-tip fit test on iOS or in the Beats app for Android to check the tip fit and acoustic seal.
Beats lists extra-small, small, medium and large ear-tip sizes for Powerbeats Fit. Its instructions and included-size details are on the official product page.
Bose Sport Earbuds
Bose advises tucking the eartip wing under the ear ridge and trying another tip size if the fit does not feel comfortable or secure. Follow the Bose fitting instructions for the model rather than assuming that placement advice transfers unchanged to other earbuds.

Test the fit during the movement you intend to do
After fitting the earbuds, try them during the kind of movement you expect—such as the motion and pace of your workout—and notice whether either bud shifts, loosens or becomes uncomfortable. This is a practical check, not a substitute for independent comparative testing: the cited sources do not report tests across different exercises or ear shapes.
- If a bud feels insecure, adjust its position and try a different included tip size.
- If it remains uncomfortable or loose, compare another retention style instead of assuming that a wing or hook will solve the problem.
- Assess the fit again during your actual activity; a stationary fit check alone does not establish how it will feel in motion.
Match the resistance claim to your activity
Check the product’s stated sweat or water-resistance rating and what the manufacturer says that rating covers. For Powerbeats Fit, Beats lists IPX4 resistance and says the earbuds and case resist sweat and splashing water from any direction. That is a manufacturer claim, not a claim that the product is waterproof. See the Beats product page for its stated limits.

Bose’s workout-headphones page also frames secure fit and water resistance as considerations when choosing workout earbuds. Check the specific model’s own information rather than treating a brand-level category page as proof of a particular product’s rating.
