Choose a USB-C charger by checking your exact device model’s recommended wattage and charging protocol, then use a reputable, compliant USB-C Power Delivery (USB PD) charger that meets those requirements. A charger’s wattage is its maximum capability—not power it forces into the device. With USB PD, the device and charger negotiate, and the device draws only what it can use.
Start with your exact device model
There is no single wattage that is right for every phone, tablet, or laptop. Recommendations vary by model and generation, so check the manufacturer’s specifications or support page rather than choosing by device category alone.
For Macs, Apple’s model-specific examples range from 20W for MacBook Neo and 30W options for some MacBook Air models to 140W for specified 16-inch MacBook Pro models. Other listed Mac options include 35W, 67W, 70W, and 96W. These figures are examples, not universal recommendations for all Macs. See Apple’s Mac power-adapter guidance for the exact model information.

On a Mac, Apple also directs users to System Information > Power to see the wattage of a connected adapter. For other devices, use the maker’s product specifications or support page.
Match the wattage and charging protocol
Once you have the device’s recommendation, choose a USB-C PD charger that meets or exceeds that wattage and supports the charging protocol your device needs. Protocol compatibility matters: a charger with a large wattage number may not deliver a phone’s expected fast-charge behavior if it lacks the supported mode. Google’s Pixel guidance, for example, distinguishes USB PD from PPS options.

- What You Get: Anker 735 Charger (Nano II 65W) / PowerPort III 3-Port 65W Pod, welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
A higher-capacity USB PD charger can generally charge a lower-demand device. Apple says a USB-C-charging Mac can use an adapter with higher or lower wattage than the recommended adapter; the Mac manages how much power it takes. USB PD is designed to let devices negotiate for the power they require. This guidance should not be extended to damaged or noncompliant equipment, or to proprietary charging systems without checking their requirements.

Check the cable, ports, and safety details
Make sure the cable can carry the required power
The cable and connector path can limit charging. Google notes that a Pixel charges more slowly over USB-A to USB-C than over USB-C to USB-C. For a device that needs more than 60W with Google’s 67W charger, Google specifies a certified E-Marker cable; with a standard cable, output is limited to 60W. See the charger specifications and use a cable rated for the power your device and charger support.
Read the per-port and combined-output specifications
On a multiport charger, the number in the product name may describe its maximum under a particular connection setup, not what each device receives when several are connected. Google’s Pixel Flex Dual Port 67W charger provides up to 67W from either port when one device is connected. With two devices, it provides up to 60W on either port and up to 67.5W combined, and it prioritizes Pixel devices. Those figures are specific to that charger; check the allocation chart for the model you are considering.

Use compliant, undamaged equipment
Choose a charger and cable that comply with the safety requirements for your region, and do not use equipment that is damaged. Wattage alone does not establish whether a charger is safe or compatible.
Why charging speed can vary
Even with a compatible charger, the device may not charge at its maximum rate continuously. Google identifies usage while charging, battery age, ambient temperature, and connected devices as factors. Some Pixel phones adjust charging to manage battery and device temperatures. A nominally higher-wattage charger therefore does not guarantee a faster charge in every situation.
Best Value
- Fast charging: 65-watt USB Power Delivery PD 3.0 for high-speed charging of compatible devices, like iPhone, iPad Pro, Samsung Galaxy, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and more
- GaN technology: GaN components waste less power and produce less heat (compared to silicon), which results in a more efficient charge
- Compact size: small but powerful thanks to innovative GaN technology; design includes a foldable plug for travel-friendly portability
- Safety features: integrated over-voltage, overheating, and short-circuit protection to keep connected devices safe
- No PPS support: Charging for Samsung / Google Pixel phones is limited at 9V max. and will NOT achieve Super Fast Charging speeds.
Official guidance identifies temperature and battery age as factors in charging speed, but it does not establish a universal charger-wattage threshold for maximum battery longevity or a quantified comparison of battery wear by charger wattage. Do not treat a higher wattage, by itself, as proof of shorter battery life.
Quick Recap
A quick selection checklist
- Identify the exact model and generation. Find its official charging recommendation and any required fast-charging protocol.
- Choose a suitable USB-C PD charger. Meet or exceed the recommended wattage and verify protocol support, including PPS if your model calls for it.
- Confirm the cable rating. Use the right USB-C connection and a cable rated for the output; check whether an E-Marker cable is required above 60W.
- For multi-device charging, inspect power allocation. Confirm both per-port output and total output when multiple devices are connected.
- Check compliance and condition. Use compliant, undamaged charger and cable equipment.
