For gaming, start with your laptop maker’s gaming, performance, or turbo profile while the laptop is plugged into its supplied power adapter. Use the balanced or quieter profile when lower fan noise matters more than peak performance. The right choice depends on the laptop: the RTX 5090 Laptop GPU name alone does not identify its power limit or available settings.
Start with the laptop maker’s profiles
Use the laptop manufacturer’s control app or documented settings to select a profile. Labels and behavior differ by model, so choose the mode your laptop identifies for gaming or higher performance rather than looking for a universal RTX 5090 setting. For gaming, begin on the supplied power adapter; battery operation can impose different limits.
- Gaming, performance, or turbo: Try this when you want the laptop to prioritize game performance.
- Balanced or quiet: Try this when fan noise or heat is a higher priority than peak performance.
More aggressive modes may also increase fan speed. For example, GIGABYTE describes Gaming mode on its supported laptops as providing more system power with Dynamic Boost 2.0, and Turbo mode as maximum system power with fans at full speed. Those descriptions apply to the supported GIGABYTE systems in its mode guide, not every RTX 5090 laptop.

NVIDIA lists a 95–150 W GPU subsystem power range for the RTX 5090 Laptop GPU in its current product information accessed in 2026. That is a family-level range, not a statement of the limit configured in your particular laptop or the power it will sustain during a game.

Model-specific profiles can use different limits. Windows Central’s 2026 review of the ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo reports 150 W in Turbo and Manual modes and 135 W in Performance mode. These figures describe that reviewed configuration only; they are not targets for other RTX 5090 laptops. PC Gamer’s 2026 discussion likewise notes variation in laptop GPU power limits and the importance of model-specific disclosure: PC Gamer.
Before changing settings, check the laptop’s published specifications and the information in its own control app. Do not treat NVIDIA’s range or another laptop’s profile values as your machine’s specification.

Choose a profile based on what matters in your game

There is no universal frame-rate gain or temperature change to expect from switching profiles. Those outcomes depend on the laptop and game, and the cited sources do not establish a general benchmark.

- Connect the supplied power adapter.
- Open the laptop manufacturer’s control app or follow the profile instructions for your exact model.
- Select the documented gaming, performance, or turbo profile for a performance-first session, or balanced/quiet for a quieter session.
- Play the same game under the conditions you care about and compare perceived performance and fan noise. Treat the result as specific to your laptop and workload.
The exact menu path, power target, and fan behavior cannot be specified without the laptop’s make and model and its control utility. Avoid assuming that BIOS changes, GPU mux settings, overclocking, or third-party power-limit tools are necessary; model-specific support for those steps is not established here.
