Choose the console around the specific upcoming games you expect to play—not a blanket claim that Xbox or PlayStation has more exclusives. Check each title’s confirmed platforms, exclusivity wording and release timing: an Xbox “console exclusive,” for example, is not necessarily exclusive to the wider Xbox ecosystem or unavailable on PC.
Start with games, not the brand
Make a short list of upcoming games you genuinely want, then verify each one individually. Event roundups and publisher announcements are snapshots, not complete catalogs: Xbox’s June 2026 showcase and PlayStation’s June 2026 Summer Game Fest roundup do not provide a comparable, standardized count of upcoming console exclusives.
- Write down your must-play titles. Prioritize games you would actually buy or play, rather than a large list of titles that merely look interesting.
- Check the platform list for each game. Distinguish console-exclusive from timed console-exclusive, PC-and-console, and multiplatform. Treat the publisher’s exact wording as meaningful.
- Check release timing and certainty. A firm date, a broad release window and no announced date are different levels of certainty. Revisit official listings before buying a console or preordering a game.
- Compare the purchase route and full cost. Factor in the console edition, games, storage and any online or catalog subscription you would actually use. Prices were not verified for this comparison, so check current regional pricing directly.
- Account for the rest of your setup. Your existing library, friends, saves and preferred devices may matter as much as one future release.
What the announced games show
| Game | What has been announced | What that means for your choice |
|---|---|---|
| Gears of War: E-Day | Xbox called it an Xbox console exclusive and said it is not a timed exclusive in its June 2026 showcase recap. The announcement does not establish whether a PC version is unavailable. Xbox Wire, June 2026 | A concrete reason to consider Xbox if the game is a priority; do not translate “console exclusive” into “Xbox only.” |
| Clockwork Revolution | Xbox used the same “Xbox console exclusive” and “not timed exclusive” wording in its June 2026 recap. No consumer release date is established by that statement. Xbox Wire, June 2026 | Another Xbox console-exclusivity example, but its date and any PC availability need separate confirmation. |
| Fable | Xbox announced it for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud, Steam, PS5 and Game Pass. The Xbox product page lists February 23, 2027. Xbox Fable page | Do not buy an Xbox solely to play this title based on the current announcement; PS5 is also listed. Confirm the date and platforms again near release. |
| Forza Horizon 6 | Xbox’s January 2026 recap said Xbox and PC for a May 2026 launch, with PS5 planned later in 2026. Xbox Wire, January 2026 | The announcement describes a planned multiplatform release, not a permanent Xbox-only game. Verify whether the PS5 version is available by the time you are deciding. |
| PlayStation’s June 2026 roundup titles | PlayStation listed 16 games coming to PS5. Named examples include Final Fantasy VII Revelation and Gundam Rogue Orbit for 2027, and Guild Wars 3, with first beta tests described as beginning in fall 2027. The roundup does not establish that these titles are exclusive to PlayStation. PlayStation.Blog, June 2026 | Use the list to identify games to investigate, not as proof that a PS5 is the only way to play them. |
How to weigh ecosystem, subscriptions and cost
Existing library, friends and devices
If you already own digital games, play regularly with friends on one platform, or rely on existing saves, switching may cost more than the console price alone. Check compatibility and account details for the particular games you care about rather than assuming a library transfers between platforms.
Xbox Play Anywhere can be useful for supported titles: Xbox says purchases from its Xbox or Windows store can carry saves, add-ons and achievements across supported Xbox, PC and handheld devices. It applies only to games marked Play Anywhere, not every Xbox game. In a March 11, 2026 statement, Xbox VP Jason Ronald said the catalog had more than 1,500 games and that 500 development teams had shipped games with Play Anywhere. Xbox Wire, March 11, 2026

Subscriptions and total cost
A subscription may affect how you plan to play an announced game, but availability and eligibility can change by title, plan, date and country. Check the current service listing for the game and the plan available in your region before treating subscription access as part of the value. The announcements cited here do not establish a current, like-for-like hardware or subscription price comparison.
Future hardware is not a purchase date
In March 2026, Xbox VP Jason Ronald said Project Helix is designed to play Xbox console and PC games, and that Xbox planned to ship alpha hardware to developers beginning in 2027. That is a developer-hardware plan, not a consumer release date, a launch window or a confirmed specification for a product you can buy. Xbox Wire, March 11, 2026

Which platform fits your shortlist?
- Lean Xbox if the Xbox console-exclusive games you have confirmed—such as Gears of War: E-Day or Clockwork Revolution—are among your must-plays and you are comfortable with the other trade-offs.
- Lean PlayStation if the upcoming PS5 games you have verified are the ones you most want, or your existing library and social circle make PS5 the more practical fit. A PS5 listing alone does not prove a game is exclusive.
- Wait and recheck if your leading games are announced for both consoles, their platforms or dates remain uncertain, or a planned later release has not yet arrived. You can decide closer to the game’s release when the platform list is clearer.
Before making the purchase, revisit the official page for each must-play title and record its platforms, date and any subscription requirement as of the day you check. That small game-by-game check is more reliable than a headline tally of “exclusives.”
