The Galaxy Z Fold8 costs $700.99 more than the iPhone 18 Pro at the U.S. manufacturers’ listed starting prices: $1,899.99 before trade-in for Samsung’s foldable versus $1,199 for Apple’s conventional Pro phone. The Fold8’s premium buys a second, larger screen when unfolded—not proof that it is the better phone for everyone. Choose it if that expanded canvas suits how you read, watch video, or multitask; choose the iPhone if you prefer a conventional phone and Apple’s camera and processor features.
Price difference: how much more is the Galaxy Z Fold8?
Apple lists the iPhone 18 Pro from $1,199 in the United States. Samsung lists the Galaxy Z Fold8 from $1,899.99 before trade-in. Subtracting those displayed starting prices, the Fold8 is $700.99 more—about $700—before taxes, promotions, carrier conditions, or storage upgrades. These are manufacturer-listed U.S. prices and can change; check the current price for the configuration and offer you intend to buy. Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro announcement and Samsung’s U.S. Fold8 page list the respective prices.
Storage choices also differ. Apple lists the iPhone 18 Pro in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB; Samsung lists the Fold8 in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. Compare the price of the same capacity where both offer it rather than assuming the entry prices answer what a higher-storage model will cost.
Specifications compared
| Specification | Apple iPhone 18 Pro | Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 |
|---|---|---|
| U.S. starting price | $1,199, per Apple’s September 9, 2026 announcement | $1,899.99 before trade-in, as listed on Samsung’s U.S. page |
| Design | Conventional Pro smartphone | Book-style foldable with cover and inner displays |
| Display details established here | Apple’s announcement highlights a smaller Dynamic Island; a directly comparable screen-size figure is not stated in the cited material | 5.5-inch cover screen and 7.6-inch inner screen; Samsung specifications |
| Processor | A20 Pro | Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy |
| Rear cameras | 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture | 50MP wide and 50MP ultra-wide; Samsung also lists up to 10x digital zoom |
| Storage options | 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, 2TB | 256GB, 512GB, 1TB |
| Weight | Not stated in the cited announcement | 201g on Samsung’s U.S. product page |
| Battery information | Apple describes major battery-life gains; a comparable capacity or common-test runtime is not stated here | 4,800mAh; Samsung claims up to 26 hours of video playback |
Specifications are manufacturer claims, not results from a shared independent test. In particular, megapixel counts alone do not establish which camera takes better photos. Samsung’s 26-hour video-playback figure is its own claim; it cannot be directly compared with Apple’s general battery statement without a common test and conditions. Samsung Australia’s Fold8 feature guide also lists the screen sizes, but regional specifications should be checked against the model sold in your market.

The practical difference: one phone or a phone that unfolds
What the Fold8’s larger inner screen changes
The Fold8’s 5.5-inch cover screen is for using the device while it is folded; opening it reveals a 7.6-inch inner display. That additional canvas is the central reason to consider paying more. It can be useful for reading, watching video, and viewing or working with more content at once. The screen dimensions are manufacturer specifications, not a promise that every app will use the inner display in the same way.
What the iPhone 18 Pro’s conventional design offers
The iPhone 18 Pro stays in the conventional smartphone form factor. It avoids making the purchase decision depend on whether a foldable inner screen fits your daily use, while offering Apple’s stated A20 Pro processor and a 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture. Those listed features do not, by themselves, establish a performance or camera-quality advantage over Samsung’s phone.

Which phone should you choose?
Choose the Galaxy Z Fold8 if
- You expect to use the larger unfolded display for reading, media, or multitasking.
- You are willing to pay the higher listed starting price for a book-style foldable.
- You have checked the price of the storage tier and the local model you want, rather than relying only on the entry price.
Choose the iPhone 18 Pro if
- You want a conventional Pro smartphone rather than a phone with an inner folding screen.
- You are drawn to Apple’s A20 Pro platform or its variable-aperture 48MP main-camera specification.
- You prefer the lower U.S. manufacturer-listed starting price, subject to the storage tier and current offers.
This is a choice between different form factors and feature priorities, not a verdict that one is universally superior. The listed manufacturer specifications do not establish which has better camera results, real-world battery life, durability, or performance in comparable testing.
Availability and regional details
Apple announced iPhone 18 Pro on September 9, 2026, with U.S. availability beginning September 18, 2026. Samsung Australia’s guide says the Fold8 was unveiled July 22, 2026; Samsung’s U.S. product page presents U.S. buying options. Launch timing, configuration, and price can vary by market, so use the local manufacturer page for the phone you plan to buy rather than carrying U.S. prices or Australian specifications across regions.
