For a typical stereo YouTube music livestream, set audio to 128 Kbps, use AAC or MP3 over RTMP/RTMPS, and choose a 44.1 kHz sample rate. YouTube does not specify a higher audio bitrate for a stream simply because it runs 24/7. Test a representative stream and monitor its health rather than raising the bitrate based on duration alone.
Recommended audio settings for stereo music
| Setting | Recommended choice |
|---|---|
| Audio bitrate | 128 Kbps |
| Audio codec over RTMP/RTMPS | AAC or MP3 |
| Sample rate | 44.1 kHz |
| Channel layout | Stereo |
These are YouTube’s published live-encoder settings for stereo. See YouTube’s live encoder settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS for ingestion; confirm that your encoder and chosen ingest path support the settings you select.
Why 24/7 duration does not change the audio bitrate
YouTube’s live settings do not publish a separate audio bitrate for continuous streams. A 24/7 broadcast therefore does not, by itself, call for more than the standard 128 Kbps stereo setting. The practical difference is operational: test the actual program and encoder before depending on them for a continuous stream, and keep an eye on stream health and any warnings while it runs.

YouTube gives a recommended stereo setting, but its guidance does not establish that exceeding 128 Kbps improves the audio delivered to viewers. Check the source audio and test the complete encoder setup instead of assuming a larger number will sound better.

Keep audio settings distinct from other configurations
Stereo versus 5.1
For 5.1 audio, YouTube lists 384 Kbps and 48 kHz; over RTMP/RTMPS, its guidance specifies AAC for 5.1. These are surround-sound settings, not alternate targets for an ordinary stereo music stream. Refer to the current live encoder settings when configuring a different channel layout.
Live encoding versus uploaded-video encoding
Do not substitute the audio recommendations for uploaded videos for the live encoder settings. YouTube’s upload encoding recommendations address a different workflow; the live stereo recommendation is 128 Kbps at 44.1 kHz.

RTMP/RTMPS versus HLS
For stereo over HLS, YouTube also lists 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz, with AAC, AC3, or EAC3 as audio codec options. HLS has protocol-specific requirements and uses segmented delivery, which has higher latency than RTMP. Check YouTube’s HLS setup guidance before changing protocols.

Check total upload capacity, not audio in isolation
The audio bitrate is only one part of the stream’s network load. Video requirements vary with ingestion codec, resolution, and frame rate, and any backup stream adds to the total traffic. YouTube advises that the total stream bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. See its streaming tips and calculate capacity for the complete stream, not just the audio track.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Preflight checklist for a continuous music stream
- Set the audio encoder: choose 128 Kbps, stereo, and 44.1 kHz for a typical music stream.
- Choose a supported codec and protocol: for RTMP/RTMPS, use AAC or MP3; YouTube recommends RTMPS. If using HLS, follow its protocol-specific codec and setup requirements.
- Test representative content: run a test using the kind of audio and video movement that will actually be broadcast. Check stream health and messages during the test and operation. YouTube’s stream management guidance covers testing and monitoring.
- Confirm network headroom: add the audio and video bitrates, account for any backup stream, and ensure the total stays within available upload capacity with YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom.
Common bitrate and stream problems
- Audio is configured at a different rate than intended: verify the encoder’s audio bitrate, channel layout, and sample rate, then run another representative test.
- The stream has health warnings or interruptions: check the complete outbound bitrate against available upload capacity, including video and any backup stream. Use YouTube’s stream health messages to identify the reported issue.
- Audio settings differ after changing delivery protocol: confirm the codec and sampling requirements for RTMP/RTMPS or HLS rather than carrying settings over without checking.
- The stream uses 5.1 but is configured like stereo: check channel layout first; YouTube’s 5.1 values are 384 Kbps and 48 kHz, not the stereo values.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your 24/7 stream plays uploaded music videos rather than a live camera feed, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It streams uploaded files as made, up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; the monthly option is $9.99 per month. Start a free day with StreamNeo.
