First check what “3D scene import” means: an app may let you import and edit 3D assets, while its AI video model may accept only rendered images or video references. Reallusion documents a practical 3D-to-AI workflow using iClone for scene work and AI Studio for generation, but the documented handoff is a first-frame image plus captured viewport video—not an editable scene file sent directly to the video model.
What “3D scene import” should mean when choosing a tool
Separate the workflow into two stages. The 3D application is where you import assets, arrange the scene, and create animation. The AI video stage may then take the scene itself, or it may take rendered reference media. Those are different capabilities, even if a product supports both stages.
- Editable scene import: The 3D application accepts files such as OBJ or FBX so you can work with meshes, materials, or motion.
- Direct AI scene ingestion: The video model receives editable scene data, such as geometry, animation, or camera information.
- Rendered-reference workflow: You render or capture the scene as an image or video and provide that media to the AI model as guidance.

In this workflow, iClone is the 3D staging and animation application, while AI Studio is the generation stage. You prepare a scene in iClone, create a first-frame image in the intended visual style, capture the relevant viewport motion as a video, and provide both as references in the 3D-to-Video workflow. - Import and stage the scene in iClone. Bring in the assets you need, then arrange the scene and camera.
- Create the intended opening image. Generate the first-frame image from the project in the style you want for the clip.
- Capture the motion. Record the desired viewport frame range as a video.
- Submit both references to AI Studio. Use the first-frame image and captured video in the 3D-to-Video workflow, checking the selected model’s current input requirements.
Reallusion’s manual says: “The First Frame image and captured video motion must originate from the same project to ensure the render style of the First Frame can be consistently maintained throughout the video.” That makes project consistency a practical requirement: do not pair an opening image from one scene setup with motion captured from another.
Check the 3D import formats and what they preserve
Reallusion’s iClone product information lists OBJ import for mesh and materials, and FBX import for mesh, materials, and motion. The displayed feature matrix associates FBX motion import with 3DXchange Pipeline. These descriptions do not mean every import type preserves the same information. Importing a prop is not the same as importing animated-character motion. Before choosing a tool, verify the exact version and edition against your asset type and the data you need to retain:

- Does the import retain the mesh and materials you expect?
- Does it bring in animation or motion, or only a static object?
- Are hierarchy, cameras, and timing preserved? The cited import descriptions do not establish these details for every asset type.
- Does the relevant feature require a separate converter or edition, such as the documented 3DXchange Pipeline condition for FBX motion?
Compare the AI video stage, not just the 3D application
Once the scene is in the 3D application, ask what the AI stage actually accepts. A first-frame image and viewport video provide visual guidance, but they are not equivalent to handing the model editable geometry, a camera rig, or a timeline. If your project depends on precise camera moves or repeatable animation timing, confirm how much control survives the handoff rather than assuming the AI output will reproduce the scene exactly.

Check reference limits for the selected model
The AI Studio manual lists Seedance 2.0 Mini, Seedance 2.0, and Seedance 2.5 for reference-based generation. Its requirements vary by model, including the number and type of references, supported formats, file size, duration, dimensions, and aspect ratio. Image and video formats listed include PNG, JPG/JPEG, WebP, MP4, and MOV; BMP and GIF are also listed for Seedance 2.5. Audio reference types are included in the requirements table as well. Because these constraints differ by model and can change, check the current manual and the in-app requirements or warnings before preparing a production batch. A file accepted by one model may not meet another model’s reference count, format, or duration rules.

- Import: Which 3D formats are accepted, and are they supported in your version and edition?
- Preservation: Which of mesh, materials, hierarchy, animation, cameras, and timing are retained for your specific file type?
- AI input: Does the generation stage accept an editable scene, or only rendered reference media?
- Control: Can you guide the opening composition and motion, and what must be recreated or approximated in the generated output?
- Limits: What are the selected model’s reference-count, format, size, duration, dimension, and aspect-ratio rules?
- Dependencies: Does the required import feature depend on a particular edition, converter, or other component?
- Access: Check current pricing and subscription entitlements directly with the vendor; the cited workflow documentation does not establish them.
For the specific iClone and AI Studio route, official Reallusion materials document 3D asset work, viewport capture, and AI rendering through references. They do not provide a neutral head-to-head benchmark of output quality or control against other tools, so compare workflows using your own assets and required deliverables rather than assuming one system will produce a particular quality level.
