Choose a USB-C Power Delivery (USB-PD) charger that meets your laptop maker’s recommended wattage, then check that it supports your phone’s charging protocol, your cable’s power rating, and the charger’s per-port output when both devices are plugged in. USB-C names the connector, not the charging speed: a USB-C plug alone does not guarantee USB-PD or your phone’s fast-charge mode.
Start with the laptop’s power requirement
Find the recommended adapter wattage for your exact laptop model in its manufacturer’s guidance. Choose a USB-C charger that supports USB Power Delivery (USB-PD) and meets or exceeds that wattage for the best charging experience. Apple, for example, says a USB-C Mac can be charged from a USB-C adapter or display that supports USB-PD and recommends at least the specified wattage for that Mac. USB-PD power levels are a standard capability, not a promise about what a particular device will draw. USB-IF says the standard’s power capability can reach up to 240W; that figure is not a recommended phone charging rate. Check the phone’s protocol and model-specific guidance
Look up charging advice for your exact phone model. The connector, protocol, and supported rate all matter: a USB-C charger may not support the phone’s preferred fast-charging mode, and a higher-wattage label does not mean the phone will draw that power.

Google Pixel
Google’s current Pixel guidance lists its 30W, 45W, and 67W USB-C chargers, PPS adapters rated at 30W or more, and other USB-PD adapters rated at 15W or more. The maximum charging speed depends on the Pixel model, so these thresholds should not be read as a guarantee that every Pixel reaches 30W or more. Google: Charge your Pixel phone
iPhone
Apple says iPhone 15 and later can charge using USB-C cables and compatible USB-C adapters. Its fast-charge requirements vary by model, and temperature can affect whether fast charging works. Samsung and other phones
Do not assume that one PPS charger guarantees a specific Samsung “Super Fast Charging” tier. The supported PPS mode and adapter requirement depend on the exact phone model; verify them in that model’s current manufacturer guidance before buying.

A capable charger cannot make an under-rated cable suitable for a higher-power connection. Check the cable’s stated power rating and make sure it meets the needs of the devices you plan to charge. Check how a multi-port charger shares power
When a laptop and phone share a charger, look at both the output available from each port and the combined output with two devices connected. A charger’s headline wattage or port count does not tell you how much power each device receives simultaneously.
For example, Google documents its Pixel Flex Dual Port 67W charger as providing up to 67W from either port with one device connected, up to 60W from a port when two devices are connected, and a combined maximum of 67.5W. Use compliant, undamaged equipment
Read the charger and cable labels, and choose equipment that supports the voltage and current your devices require. USB-IF advises consumers to buy compliant USB products from trusted sources displaying USB-IF certified logos on the packaging, product brief, cable, or device. Google warns that incompatible voltage or current, non-compliant cables, and non-compliant devices can cause injury or permanent damage. Keep connectors dry and unobstructed, follow the instructions for your charger and devices, and stop charging if a manufacturer warning tells you to disconnect. Google Pixel safety guidance

Why charging may be slower than expected
- Wrong protocol or device limit: the phone or laptop may not support the charger’s advertised mode or maximum output.
- Shared power: connecting a second device can change a multi-port charger’s per-port allocation.
- Cable rating: the cable may not be rated for the power required.
- Temperature or device state: charging speed can depend on temperature, settings, and device state. Apple notes that excessive heat or cold can prevent fast charging. Apple charging guidance
A practical buying checklist
- Identify your laptop’s recommended adapter wattage and confirm it supports USB-PD.
- Check your phone’s model-specific protocol and adapter guidance, including PPS support if the manufacturer specifies it.
- Choose a cable with a stated power rating suitable for the devices and charger.
- For simultaneous charging, verify the charger’s per-port output and combined output with two devices connected.
- Buy compliant equipment from a trusted source, inspect it for damage, and follow the device and charger instructions.
