To choose a travel eSIM for a Galaxy S23, first confirm your exact phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked. Then compare plans for every destination on your itinerary, checking the included network, data allowance, validity, hotspot rules, and whether calls or SMS are included. Samsung lists the S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra as eSIM-capable, but availability can vary by country, carrier and device origin.
Check that your Galaxy S23 can use an eSIM
Samsung lists the Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra among eSIM-capable devices, but the model name alone does not guarantee support. Regional configurations and carrier restrictions can affect availability. Samsung’s Galaxy eSIM and supported network carriers page says, “eSIM service may vary depending on the country and carrier.”
- On the phone, open Settings > Connections > SIM manager and look for Add eSIM.
- Check the device’s full model and region if support is uncertain; Samsung’s eSIM setup guidance notes that device and carrier availability can vary.
- Confirm with the original carrier that the phone is unlocked. Airalo says a carrier-locked device cannot use its service, and regional models may differ; see its compatible-device guidance.
If Add eSIM is missing or the phone is locked, resolve that before buying a plan. An eSIM-capable series does not guarantee that a particular handset can accept a particular provider’s profile.
Match the plan to your itinerary and usage
Compare the specific package you could buy, rather than relying on a provider’s brand-wide coverage description. Coverage can be country-specific, regional or global, and the local partner network may differ between destinations. Airalo describes those coverage scopes in its plan overview; verify the exact countries and networks on the package page.

Separate travel data from calls and messages
Many travel eSIMs are primarily for data. Do not assume the package includes a local number, ordinary voice calls or SMS: Airalo says some packages include calls and texts, while Ubigi describes data plans and retaining a primary provider for traditional calls and SMS. Check the selected package rather than general brand information.
You may be able to use the travel eSIM for data and keep your regular SIM available for calls or messages. Holafly describes that arrangement, as does Ubigi for its service. However, keeping the home line active can incur roaming charges depending on your carrier and settings. Check the home carrier’s roaming terms before departure, especially if you rely on your usual number for two-factor messages.

Compare providers without assuming one is best
Airalo, Ubigi and Holafly are examples to include in a destination-specific comparison, not a ranking or a complete market survey. Their packages, networks and terms vary, and the available information does not establish a universal winner or current cheapest plan.

Install the eSIM and activate it according to its instructions
Samsung documents three possible setup methods: provider-enabled simple setup, QR-code scanning, or manual activation-code entry. Which options appear depends on the carrier or provider. Internet access is needed to download the eSIM profile.
- Before travel, open Settings > Connections > SIM manager > Add eSIM.
- Choose the setup option supported by your provider: simple setup, scan its QR code, or enter its activation code manually. Follow the provider’s instructions for any activation steps.
- At your destination, select the travel line for mobile data as directed by the provider. Check whether that plan requires data roaming for its travel profile.
- Review whether leaving the home SIM active could trigger roaming charges under your carrier’s terms.
There is no single data-roaming setting that applies to every provider. Follow the selected plan’s instructions instead of assuming that one setting works for all travel eSIMs. Samsung’s setup instructions cover the phone’s available installation paths; provider-specific directions determine plan activation.
