Start with the British programmes you actually want to watch, then compare which UK service has them, what the right plan costs, and whether its adverts, live viewing and download rules suit you. ITVX, Netflix and NOW each offer a different route; no single service is best for every viewer, and catalogues and prices can change.
Choose by programme, not by the label “British TV”
Make a short list of the shows, series and specials you want—including the kind of comedy you enjoy—and search each service’s current UK catalogue. A service having a British-comedy category does not mean it carries every British comedy, or that a particular programme will stay available.
Netflix UK currently has a “British Comedy Series” category featuring titles such as Man Like Mobeen, Bad Education, Outnumbered, Peep Show and Amandaland. Treat these as examples of its catalogue, not a promise of permanent availability. See Netflix’s UK comedy listings.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor ITVX, the free service includes comedy, while ITVX Premium adds the BritBox UK catalogue. ITV Help says BritBox has moved to ITVX and Premium includes the entire BritBox catalogue, including BBC content. Check the current catalogue for the exact programme you want: broad service descriptions do not confirm every title. See ITV’s BritBox-on-ITVX guidance and ITVX Premium.

The Anycast interface appears instantly—it automatically detects your IP address and adjusts to your local language. Connection steps vary by device; simply follow the user manual based on your system.

Advanced audio-video sync technology means you'll never suffer from annoying lip-sync delays during your favorite shows.
- COMPATIBILITY & LIMITATIONS: Works with MacBook series, iOS 9.0+, Android 5.0+, and Windows 10+ devices via AirPlay, Miracast, and DLNA protocols. Please note: Not compatible with Google Pixel or Motorola phones. Android and Windows devices must support Miracast for screen mirroring to function. Additionally, this dongle does not work with DRM-protected apps such as Netflix, Amazon Video, HBO Go, Hulu Plus, Sky Go, DIRECTV, and similar streaming services.
- USAGE TIPS: The Anycast dongle features two built-in modes—AirPlay Mode for all iOS devices and Miracast Mode for Android and Windows. A dedicated mode switch button lets you toggle between them to match your device. Experiencing connection issues? Press and hold the button for 3-5 seconds to restart the dongle; this resolves most common problems. Always confirm your display is set to the correct HDMI input. For detailed connection steps, refer to the user manual specific to your device.
Check commitment as well as the headline price
A low monthly figure may be a time-limited offer with a minimum term, not a month-to-month subscription. NOW’s cited £4.99 Entertainment offer requires six months and then renews at £7.99 per month unless cancelled. Compare the total commitment and renewal amount with a flexible plan, and note when you would need to cancel to avoid renewal.
ITVX Premium’s annual price is paid yearly, so compare its upfront payment with the monthly option rather than assuming the two plans have the same billing flexibility. Prices can change; use the service’s current offer page and checkout details when deciding.
Decide how much advertising you will tolerate
Free access and paid plans do not always mean the same thing by “ad-free.” ITVX says Premium removes ads from its on-demand library, but live TV still has adverts, and contractual promotions may remain. NOW says standard memberships include ads unless an eligible Boost or Ultra Boost add-on applies; live channels and sports still have ads, and add-on availability and device conditions apply. Netflix’s listed Standard with adverts plan is explicitly ad-supported.
Read the service’s current terms if uninterrupted viewing is important. In particular, distinguish on-demand programmes from live channels and do not assume an ad-removal add-on covers every type of content. See ITVX Premium’s ad details and NOW’s plan and Boost information.

- 【Wireless and easy connection】This wireless TV dongle adapter requires no app and is easy to set up. Remember you will need 5V/1A power for the included USB cable. - 【Compatibility】This wireless display adapter is compatible with a variety of HDMI input devices, including TVs, monitors, and projectors. Note that Android phones without Miracast protocol support (e.g., Google Pixel devices) cannot use this adapter.

Choose between on-demand shows and live viewing
If you mainly watch selected episodes when convenient, focus on on-demand availability. If you want live channels or events, verify that the plan includes the relevant live feed and account for advertising during live viewing. ITVX Premium does not remove live-TV ads, and NOW’s ad-free add-ons do not remove ads from live channels or sports.
In the UK, a TV Licence is required to watch live TV on streaming services, including ITVX, Channel 4, Amazon Prime Video, NOW and Netflix, and to use BBC iPlayer. TV Licensing says a licence is not needed if you never watch live on any channel or streaming service and do not use BBC iPlayer; S4C on-demand does not require one. The rule concerns what you watch, not simply whether you pay for a subscription. Check TV Licensing’s current guidance for your circumstances.

Check downloads, devices and location
- Downloads: ITVX downloads are subject to licensing restrictions and limited to mobile versions of the app. Netflix describes downloads through its iOS and Android apps. If offline viewing matters, check the exact title and your device before choosing a plan.
- Devices: Confirm that your television, phone, tablet or streaming device supports the service’s app and the features you need. Netflix says it can be watched on internet-connected devices with the Netflix app; support for a particular feature can still vary.
- Location: These prices, service terms and catalogue references are for the UK. If you are outside the UK, verify that the service and the titles you want are available where you live, along with local plan terms.
For ITVX pricing and download conditions, see ITV Help; for Netflix devices and downloads, see Netflix UK.
A practical way to make the choice
- Write down the must-watch titles. Include specific series, specials and comedy styles, rather than choosing based only on a service’s “British” label.
- Search the current UK catalogues. Check the exact title and, if relevant, the series or special you want on ITVX, Netflix and NOW. Catalogue listings can change.
- Match the plan to those titles. For ITVX, decide whether free ad-supported viewing is enough or BritBox access makes Premium worthwhile. For Netflix, weigh its listed comedy titles and plan features. For NOW, check which membership carries the programmes you want.
- Calculate the real commitment. Include annual billing, minimum terms, promotional periods, renewal prices and cancellation timing—not just the first monthly figure.
- Check viewing conditions. Decide whether ads, live channels, offline downloads, device support and UK TV Licence rules affect your choice.
- Subscribe only after confirming the offer. Recheck the current catalogue and checkout terms, particularly if your decision depends on one programme or a promotional price.
Which service may suit which viewer?
- Try ITVX first if you want a free, ad-supported route to ITVX content. Consider Premium if access to the BritBox catalogue is a priority and its current price and ad limits suit you.
- Consider Netflix if the specific British comedies you want are in its current UK catalogue and its plan features and monthly price fit your budget.
- Consider NOW if the programmes you want are included in its Entertainment options, and you are comfortable with the plan’s minimum term or flexible price and its advertising conditions.
These are starting points, not universal rankings: the decisive test is whether the service currently carries your priority programmes on terms you are willing to pay for.
