Choose a power supply that meets the recommendation for your exact RX 9070 XT model, has the required GPU power connectors, and suits the rest of your build. Manufacturer recommendations in the models reviewed range from 750 W to 850 W, with XFX specifying 800 W for its Mercury Gaming Edition. There is no single wattage that applies to every RX 9070 XT system.
Start with the exact RX 9070 XT model
Board partners set recommendations for their own cards, so identify the full model name—not just “RX 9070 XT”—before choosing a PSU. These manufacturer specifications were accessed in 2026; regional versions or revisions may differ, so verify the current specification for your exact SKU.
| Graphics card | Manufacturer PSU recommendation | GPU power connection |
|---|---|---|
| ASUS Prime Radeon RX 9070 XT OC Edition | 750 W (ASUS product specification) | Three 8-pin connectors |
| ASUS TUF Gaming Radeon RX 9070 XT OC Edition | 850 W (ASUS product specification; assumes a fully overclocked GPU and CPU configuration) | Three 8-pin connectors |
| ASRock RX 9070 XT Taichi 16GB OC | 850 W (ASRock product specification) | 12V-2×6; an included cable connects 16-pin to three 8-pin plugs |
| XFX Mercury RX 9070 XT Gaming Edition | 800 W (XFX product specification) | Two PCIe 8-pin connections |
| SAPPHIRE PURE RX 9070 XT OC | 750 W minimum (SAPPHIRE product specification) | Two 8-pin connectors |
| SAPPHIRE NITRO+ RX 9070 XT OC PhantomLink | 850 W minimum (SAPPHIRE product specification) | 12V-2×6; SAPPHIRE describes a three-8-pin adapter option |

The GPU is only one part of the system. ASUS’s recommended PSU table gives RX 9070 XT system recommendations by CPU category:
#1 Best Overall
- Fully Modular: Reliable and efficient low-noise power supply with fully modular cabling, so you only have to connect the cables your system needs.
- Cybenetics Gold-Certified: Rated for up to 91% efficiency, resulting in lower power consumption, less noise, and cooler temperatures.
- ATX 3.1 Compliant: Compliant with the ATX 3.1 power standard from Intel, supporting PCIe 5.1 and resisting transient power spikes.
- Native 12V-2x6 Connector: Ensures compatibility with the latest graphics cards with a direct GPU to PSU connection – no adapter necessary.
- Embossed Cables with Low-Profile Combs: Sleek, ultra-flexible embossed cables look great and make installing and connecting the RMx a breeze.
| CPU category shown by ASUS | Recommended PSU for RX 9070 XT systems |
|---|---|
| Intel i5 / AMD Ryzen 5 | 750 W |
| Intel Core Ultra 5 / i7 / AMD Ryzen 7 | 750 W |
| Intel Core Ultra 7 / i9 / AMD Ryzen 9 | 850 W |
| Intel Core Ultra 9 / HEDT / AMD Threadripper | 850 W |
These are the CPU groupings and values in ASUS’s recommended PSU table, accessed in 2026. They are ASUS guidance, not a universal calculation for every card and build. ASUS also says the TUF card’s product-page wattage recommendation assumes a fully overclocked GPU and CPU configuration.
Check connector count and cable compatibility
Compare the card’s sockets with the PSU’s available GPU power leads. The reviewed cards use either two or three 8-pin connections, or a 12V-2×6 connection. Check the card and PSU manuals for the exact supported wiring path.

- Intel ATX 3.0 & 3.1 Ready: Fully compatible with the latest Intel ATX 3.0 and 3.1 specifications for modern PC builds
- Full Modular 80 PLUS Gold Certified: Achieves 80 PLUS Gold efficiency certification with fully modular cable management for clean builds
- PCIe 5.1 / Gen 5 12+4 Pin 12V-2x6 Cable: Equipped with the latest PCIe 5.1 connector supporting next-generation graphics cards
- High Power Excursion Support: Handles up to 235% power excursion and 300% GPU power excursion for demanding system loads
- Optimized Thermal Control: Steel shell with large vents and 120mm FDB fan enhance cooling performance for reliable operation
- For a card with 8-pin sockets, confirm that the PSU supplies the required number of appropriate PCIe power connections.
- For a 12V-2×6 card, confirm that the PSU and card documentation support the connection you intend to use.
- Use an adapter only where the card maker documents it. ASRock lists an included 16-pin-to-three-8-pin cable for Taichi; SAPPHIRE describes a three-8-pin adapter option for the NITRO+ PhantomLink if the PSU lacks 12V-2×6.
- Never assume modular PSU cables are interchangeable between PSU models. A cable that physically fits can still be incompatible; check the PSU maker’s compatibility information.
Do not treat board power as the PSU recommendation
SAPPHIRE lists 317 W typical board power and a minimum 750 W PSU for the PURE RX 9070 XT OC. For the NITRO+ PhantomLink, it lists 330 W typical board power and a minimum 850 W PSU. These figures describe different things: typical board power is not a substitute for the manufacturer’s system PSU recommendation.

How to decide whether an existing PSU is suitable
- Read the label or official specification for the exact PSU model and confirm its rated capacity.
- Match its GPU leads to the sockets on your exact card, following both manufacturers’ documentation.
- Check that the PSU’s age and condition, as well as the rest of the computer’s components, are suitable for continued use.
- If the exact model, wiring, or condition is uncertain, do not approve it based on wattage alone; consult the PSU manufacturer or replace it with a unit that meets the card maker’s guidance.
The cited recommendations do not certify every PSU model, used PSU, or complete system. They also do not establish PSU noise, efficiency, dimensions, transient response, or independent model-level test results.
