Choose a GaN charger by matching its output on the port you plan to use to your device’s required wattage and charging protocol. Then check how output changes when you plug in more devices, and make sure your USB-C cable supports the intended power. The GaN label alone does not establish wattage, USB Power Delivery (PD) or PPS support, or what each port can deliver.
Start with what your device can use
Check the device’s manual or manufacturer specifications for its charging wattage and supported protocols. Then confirm that the charger can provide the required power and protocol on the port you intend to use. Anker’s general charger guidance recommends matching or exceeding the device’s wattage and matching its charging technology; that is manufacturer advice, not an independent test. Anker’s charger-selection guidance gives examples of matching charger output and protocols.
A charger’s wattage is its available ceiling, not power it forces into a device. USB Power Delivery negotiates power between charger and device, allowing the device to request an appropriate level. As USB-IF explains, PD is a standard for flexible power delivery over a cable; it does not mean every USB-C device supports every PD feature. USB-IF’s USB Power Delivery overview describes the standard and its capabilities.

Read port output, not just the headline wattage
On a multiport charger, the total rating does not tell you how much power any one port supplies in every situation. Look for the manufacturer’s output table, including the allocations when two or more ports are occupied. The table should identify which port supports the power level your laptop, phone, or tablet needs during simultaneous charging.
#1 Best Overall
- [One Charger. Less to Carry] Nearly 30% smaller than Apple’s 70W charger, it stays snug without blocking nearby outlets. Charge 3 devices at once; foldable prongs tuck away to prevent snags and scratches.
- [65W Laptop-Ready Power] Charge a 14" MacBook Pro to 52%, iPhone 17 Pro to 67%, or Galaxy S26 Ultra to 78% in 30 min. Ready for cameras, drones, handhelds, and more.
- [A Complete Pro Charging Kit] Includes a 5ft 100W nylon-braided USB-C cable built for everyday bends and pulls, with extra reach for desks, bedsides, hotels, and travel.
- [Smart Power, Port by Port] USB-C1 delivers 65W solo; C1+C2 gives 45W+20W, C1+A 45W+18W, C2+A shares up to 15W, and all 3 run at 45W + 15W shared.
- [Stable Power, Without the Guesswork] TempGuard checks heat 1,000×/sec to help reduce heat-related slowdowns and interruptions, limiting excess heat exposure for more battery-friendly charging.
For example, Anker’s FAQ for its 70 W, three-port Nano charger advises using one USB-C port for a laptop requiring at least 65 W. That is guidance for that specific model, not a general rule for three-port chargers. Check the model’s own FAQ and output information before relying on a particular port combination.
Match USB PD and PPS support to your device
USB-C describes a connector; it does not by itself guarantee a particular charging protocol or power level. Confirm that the charger supports the protocol your device specifies. Some devices may benefit from USB PD Programmable Power Supply (PPS), but do not assume PPS is required for every phone or other USB-C device.

USB-IF identifies PPS as a feature of the USB PD 3.0 specification in its certified fast-charger initiative. Anker’s support guidance uses a Samsung compatibility example involving PPS; treat that as an example, and verify the requirements for your exact device and charger. USB-IF’s fast-charger initiative explains the PPS connection and offers consumer guidance on compliant products.
Make sure the cable can carry the intended power
A suitable charger and device still need a cable rated for the power you intend to draw. Check the cable’s stated capability rather than assuming every USB-C cable supports every charging level. USB-IF discusses higher-power USB-C cable requirements alongside USB PD 3.1, which expands the standard’s capability to as much as 240 W. That is a standards limit, not a typical charger output or a guarantee about an unspecified cable. USB-IF’s PD overview covers PD 3.1 and cable requirements.

Compare candidate chargers against your setup
Write down the devices you expect to charge together, then use their specifications and each charger’s model-specific output table to compare candidates.
- Device needs: required wattage and supported charging protocol for each device.
- Port fit: USB-C or USB-A connectors as required, plus the output available on the intended port.
- Shared output: wattage allocations and port changes when multiple devices are connected.
- Cable: a rating appropriate for the power level you intend to use.
- Practical details: plug format for your region, dimensions, and price after compatibility is established.
- Compliance cues: look for verifiable certification information rather than inferring certification from the GaN label or a product’s appearance.
USB-IF advises consumers to choose compliant products from trusted sources and look for certified USB logos in product information, on packaging, or on the product. A logo or claim should be checked against the specific product; the guidance does not establish certification for any particular charger. See USB-IF’s consumer guidance.

Understand what GaN does—and does not—tell you
GaN (gallium nitride) identifies a charger technology, not a charging specification. It does not tell you the charger’s maximum wattage, its output on each port, which protocols it supports, or how it divides power among connected devices. Anker’s overview likewise lists wattage, port types, PD, PPS, and other protocol support as selection factors rather than treating the GaN description as a substitute for those details. Anker’s GaN charger guide provides that manufacturer overview.

When higher wattage matters
USB PD 3.1 supports up to 240 W as a standard capability, according to USB-IF—not as a typical output for GaN wall chargers. USB-IF describes fixed voltages of 28 V, 36 V, and 48 V as enabling up to 140 W, 180 W, and 240 W, respectively. These are technical capabilities of the standard; a specific charger, device, port, and cable must support the relevant power level for it to be available.
