Choose a 24/7 YouTube niche by matching a recurring viewer need with a reliable supply of content you have the rights to use—and a clear reason your channel is different. Then test the idea and judge it by subscriber gains, watch time, retention, and traffic sources, not a single peak in concurrent viewers. No niche is a proven universal winner; the right choice depends on your audience, skills, resources, language, and rights.
Start with a recurring reason to watch
A continuous stream works best when viewers have a reason to leave it on or return to it. Start by naming the audience and the use case: background listening, focused study, relaxing scenery, a live community, or another repeated need. Be specific enough that a viewer can tell what your channel offers.
Search for the need in the audience’s own words. Phrases such as “24/7 lofi radio,” “study with me live,” “rain sounds live,” and “live gaming stream” can help you explore comparable channels. They are example searches, not evidence of measured search volume.
Compare niche ideas before committing
Assess each candidate on the same criteria. A popular category can also be crowded, while a narrower angle may make your offer easier to recognize. Look at comparable streams, then decide whether you can serve a specific audience differently and consistently.

Use familiar formats as hypotheses, not rankings
Common 24/7 stream ideas are prompts for evaluation, not a reliable ranking of subscriber potential. TheLoops’ niche guide characterizes lofi as having a large audience but high competition; ambient sound as relaxation-oriented with seasonal demand; gaming highlights as engaging but difficult to source and clear for copyright; study streams as needing regular new material; ASMR as quality-sensitive; and radio talk as more content-intensive. Those are the publisher’s judgments, not independently established forecasts.
For each candidate, ask what the channel would do that an existing stream does not, and whether you can sustain that distinction without relying on material you cannot rebroadcast.

Check that you can run the format continuously and lawfully
A 24/7 schedule is only viable if the content supply and operating plan are viable too. For music and other reused media, confirm you have the rights to broadcast and rebroadcast the material. A commercial continuous-stream guide emphasizes copyright-cleared tracks and enough variety to avoid conspicuous repetition; any hours-of-content figure it suggests is that publisher’s rule of thumb, not a YouTube requirement.
YouTube says live content must comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Live revenue features also depend on channel eligibility and settings, and YouTube says ad serving is not guaranteed. A niche by itself cannot promise monetization or an income level.

Choose a format that matches your production capacity. YouTube for Creators lists mobile, webcam, encoder, and console options; encoder workflows can accommodate gameplay, overlays, microphones, cameras, and other production hardware. Choose the viewing format and discovery plan
YouTube describes live discovery through channel live areas and, for vertical live streams, the Shorts feed. Its guidance also describes dual horizontal and vertical streaming. Decide which viewing context suits the content and how viewers are likely to find it; do not assume one orientation fits every niche.

Test a coherent version of the idea for a defined period, then compare equivalent periods and formats. YouTube Studio and post-stream reports can show new subscribers during a stream, total watch time, average view duration, average and peak concurrent viewers, retention, chat activity, traffic sources, and playback locations.

- Look for subscriber gains alongside watch time and average view duration: a large audience peak alone does not show that people subscribe or return.
- Use retention and traffic sources to understand whether viewers stay and how they find the stream.
- Compare like with like, such as similar durations and formats, rather than treating one unusual spike as a verdict.
- Use what you learn to adjust the angle, content mix, or presentation; do not assume an early result proves a niche will or will not work permanently.
