To check a Windows PC’s health, start with Microsoft’s PC Health Check app, then open Windows Security’s Device performance & health report for specific issues. If you are concerned about battery wear, run the Windows battery report for more detail. These tools check defined areas; a clear result does not prove that every hardware component is fault-free.
1. Check your PC with the PC Health Check app

Search for PC Health Check from the Windows taskbar and open the app. If it is not installed, download it from Microsoft’s PC Health Check app page. Microsoft notes that updates to the app may be available.

Review the sections that relate to your concern. Depending on the device, the app can show Windows 11 eligibility, Windows Update status, battery capacity information, main-drive storage use, startup time, device specifications, and backup or sync options.

Use the app’s links or recommendations to address a reported issue. For low storage, check available space and review Windows storage settings, Storage Sense, or cleanup recommendations. For slow startup, review which apps launch with Windows.

Battery-capacity information in PC Health Check is available for devices older than three years, according to Microsoft; it may not appear for every computer.
2. Read the Windows Security health report

Open Windows Security.

Select Device performance & health.

Review the report areas: storage capacity, battery life, apps and software, and the Windows Time service. Microsoft says a green check means no issue is reported for that area; a yellow mark means it needs attention. Follow any recommendations shown.

An organization may block access to this page through device policy. The report covers the areas it lists, not every hardware component or possible fault.
3. Check battery capacity with a detailed report
If the battery seems to run down faster than it used to, Windows 11 can create an HTML report with battery usage and estimated-capacity information.

Read the location Windows displays, then open the generated HTML file. Microsoft identifies Installed battery, Recent usage, and Battery usage as useful sections to review.
The report gives more detail than a general impression of battery life, but it is a battery-focused view—not a complete computer diagnostic.

What these health checks do—and do not—tell you
PC Health Check is an overview of device information and available actions. Its Windows 11 eligibility result answers whether the computer meets compatibility requirements; it does not measure overall reliability or test every component. Windows Security reports on its named areas, while the battery report focuses on battery use and estimated capacity.

If a dashboard is green but one of these symptoms persists, troubleshoot that symptom rather than treating the green result as an all-clear.
Windows 11 eligibility can take time to refresh
If you recently changed hardware and PC Health Check still shows an old eligibility result, Microsoft says the information can take up to 24 hours to refresh. Meeting the hardware requirements also does not necessarily make an upgrade offer appear immediately. Check the current status through Microsoft’s Windows 11 installation guidance.
Windows 10 health results do not restore support
Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. After that date, free Windows Update software updates, technical assistance, and security fixes are no longer provided. A good result in PC Health Check or Windows Security does not change that support status. Windows 10 users should consult Microsoft’s current Windows 10 support information and supported-Windows guidance.
