To see whether your Pixel is fully updated, check two official Settings screens: Settings > About phone > Android version for your Android, security, and Google Play system update details, then Settings > System > Software updates (sometimes labeled System update) for update status and installation prompts. One screen does not replace the other.
What the two official update screens show

The first screen is an inventory of version and update entries; the second is the place to check the system update flow. Review both rather than treating a single “up to date” message as a complete list of every update category.
How to check your Pixel step by step
- Inspect the version entries: Open Settings > About phone > Android version. Note the Android version, Android security update, Google Play system update, and build number shown.
- Check for a system update: Open Settings > System > Software updates, or System update if that is the label on your device. Review the status and follow any prompts on screen. Google’s Pixel update instructions
- Prepare before installing: Google recommends connecting to Wi-Fi and charging the device to at least 75% before updating. This is practical preparation guidance, not a guarantee that an update will install.
- Restart after an Android update downloads: Google says Pixel phones install downloaded Android updates in the background; the update becomes active the next time the device restarts. What “fully updated” can—and cannot—mean
Google says, “Most system updates and security patches install automatically.” Automatic installation does not mean every update category will necessarily be visible as a single status. Check the separate Android security and Google Play system update entries, as well as the system update screen.

An extra troubleshooting check from the Pixel Community
A Google Pixel Community Product Expert suggested a broader checklist in a reply dated January 31, 2026. This is community troubleshooting guidance, not an additional official update screen or a guarantee of completeness:
- Check for app updates in the Play Store.
- Open Google services and preferences > All services > System services and check for system-service updates.
- Return to Settings > About phone > Android version and review the Google Play system update entry.
The System services route comes from that community reply, rather than Google’s official Pixel update instructions. A separate community discussion records one user saying a Google Play system update became accessible after installing some system-service updates; that single report does not establish a general cause or fix. If an update is missing or installation fails
- Read the exact status or error shown on the Software updates screen, then follow its instructions; menu labels can differ between Pixel devices.
- Check the Android version, security update, Google Play system update, and build number separately so you know which entry is missing or unchanged.
- For an Android update that has downloaded, restart the phone so the update can become active.
- If the update is unavailable or installation still fails, use Google’s official help for device-specific guidance. Update timing varies, and a Pixel’s model, software, or carrier can affect availability; an isolated community fix should not be treated as universal.
