To check whether your PC can run a game, compare your computer’s actual hardware with that game’s official minimum and recommended PC requirements. On Windows, DxDiag can help you identify key system and display details. A match shows that your PC appears to meet the published requirements; it does not guarantee a particular frame rate or smooth performance.
1. Find the exact game’s PC requirements
Open the game’s listing on its publisher’s site or the store where you plan to buy it. Record the minimum and recommended requirements separately. Look for the operating system, processor (CPU), graphics card (GPU), memory (RAM), storage, and DirectX version, if listed. Requirements are specific to each game, so a general gaming-PC benchmark or another title’s requirements cannot answer whether this game will run on your PC.
For guidance on checking minimum requirements and graphics drivers when diagnosing a PC game issue, see EA’s DxDiag troubleshooting instructions.
2. Find your PC’s specifications in Windows
DxDiag, the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, is built into Windows and can show system and display information. Microsoft’s instructions for Windows 8.1, Windows 10, and Windows 11 explain how to use it to check the DirectX version.

- Open Start or Windows Search, type dxdiag, and open the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
- On the System tab, note the processor, memory, operating system, and DirectX version.
- Select the Display tab to find the graphics device details, including the GPU name.
- If you need to share a report for troubleshooting, EA’s instructions describe using the option to save a 64-bit DxDiag report.
Microsoft’s step-by-step instructions are at Which version of DirectX is on your PC?. Rockstar Support also recommends DxDiag as a way to identify PC hardware for compatibility checks: How can I check my PC is compatible with a Rockstar game?
Check free storage separately in Windows: open Settings > System > Storage, or check the drive’s available space in File Explorer. Compare available space with the game’s storage requirement, not just the drive’s total capacity.

3. Compare the corresponding components
Match each requirement to the same kind of information on your PC. Compare the full CPU and GPU model names, rather than relying on a brand or product-family name alone.
- CPU: Match your processor model to the listed processor.
- GPU: Match the graphics card or integrated graphics model to the listed GPU.
- RAM: Compare installed system memory with the game’s requirement.
- Storage: Confirm that the target drive has enough available space.
- Operating system and DirectX: Check these against the game’s listed versions or requirements.
There is no single pass/fail result that covers every requirement: note which rows meet the minimum, which meet the recommended target, and any that fall short.

4. Interpret minimum and recommended requirements correctly
Minimum requirements are a baseline published by the game maker; they are not a promise of smooth play, a specific resolution, or a particular frame rate. Recommended requirements are a distinct, higher target and should not be treated as interchangeable with the minimum list. A PC that meets one level but not the other should be judged against the level that fits your expectations.
Requirements alone are not a benchmark result. They do not establish how the game will perform on a specific PC, especially at particular graphics settings. If the publisher provides a benchmark or playable demo that supports your hardware, it can offer more relevant evidence than a requirements match alone.

5. Use automatic checkers as a second opinion
Third-party compatibility sites can save time, but their results depend on the accuracy and currency of their game data and hardware detection. PCGameBenchmark offers both manual specification entry and an automatic PC check: System requirements and game benchmarks — can it run?. It is a third-party service, not the game publisher’s requirements source.
Verify the checker’s result against the game’s official listing and the component models shown in DxDiag. Manual entry is useful if automatic detection misses or misidentifies a component.
6. If your PC falls short
Identify the specific requirement you do not meet before considering any change. A shortfall in storage is different from one in graphics or processor capability, and the appropriate next step depends on the component and the settings you want. The game title by itself is not enough information to recommend an upgrade.
