Use the official Register.si .si lookup to check a name and view public registration data. A result showing no registration is not a reservation: availability can change, and a registrar must complete the registration. For an existing domain, the information you can see depends on who holds it and your access level.

Check whether a .si domain is available

  1. Open the domain lookup on Register.si and enter the exact, fully qualified name, such as example.si.

  2. Read the result as a point-in-time status. If the name is registered or reserved, it cannot be registered through the ordinary process. If the lookup reports no registration, the name may be available, but the result does not secure it.

  3. For an unregistered name, check it again with a registrar and submit the registration order promptly. Register.si explains that registrars act as agents between end users and registry operators; the registrar is the channel for completing registration.

Register.si says names must also meet its format and character rules. A name must contain 2–63 characters in textual and/or binary representation, use allowed characters, have no hyphen at the beginning or end, and not have two consecutive hyphens in the third and fourth positions. Check the registry’s allowed characters and reserved names information if a name is rejected or its status is unclear.

Find the public information for a registered .si domain

Search the registered name in the Register.si lookup and review the record. Register.si’s public registration-data rules distinguish legal entities from natural persons:

A contact address or technical contact is not necessarily the legal owner. Interpret the fields as the registry labels them rather than treating any listed contact as proof of ownership.

Website lookup and RDAP: which should you use?

For a one-off check, the website lookup is the simplest option. Register.si also operates an RDAP service, a structured, machine-readable way to query registration data. RDAP returns JSON and supports domain, nameserver, and entity objects. Register.si describes RDAP as the successor to WHOIS, while its website and terms still use the term “WHOIS” for the lookup.

Lookup path Best for What it provides Important limit
Register.si website lookup A human checking availability or a public record once A search field and public .si registration information A result does not reserve a name, and visible information depends on holder type and access level.
Register.si RDAP service Technical or machine-readable queries Structured registration data in JSON, including supported domain, nameserver, and entity objects Anonymous users do not see holder or technical-contact details.

The two paths should not be assumed to expose identical fields in every situation. Register.si’s RDAP documentation describes the service and what anonymous users can see.

Request information that is not public

If you have a legitimate reason to seek non-public registration data, Register.si accepts a substantiated written request. Explain your legal basis or entitlement so the registry can assess whether access is necessary. The registry gives examples such as a trademark owner seeking to exercise rights or a lawyer acting for a client; curiosity, competitive research, or a wish to make unsolicited contact is not an established basis for disclosure. See Register.si’s personal-data disclosure process for submission details.

Use lookup data only for an appropriate purpose. Register.si’s terms prohibit using it for advertising or targeted marketing, nuisance contact, or copying and publishing the database contents. The terms page says the terms took effect on 15 November 2024; consult the current page for any later amendments: Register.si general terms and conditions.
