Check your phone’s charging status first, then verify that the bank’s port and cable support the phone’s charging method. A power bank’s printed maximum wattage is not the same as the power your phone is drawing: the phone requests power it can use, and the result depends on compatibility and current conditions. For a live numerical reading, a compatible USB-C inline power meter can show voltage, current, and wattage.
What “full speed” means
“Full speed” means the fastest rate your particular phone can accept in its current conditions—not necessarily the highest wattage printed on the power bank. With USB Power Delivery (USB PD), power is negotiated: the device requests power, and the source supplies a supported level. The phone, bank port, cable, and charging protocol all have to work together. USB-IF describes USB PD as enabling flexible power delivery over a cable; its 2021 announcement of PD Revision 3.1 notes support for up to 240 W with a full-featured USB Type-C cable and connector. Find the wired charging capability for your exact phone model before judging a reading. Connector shape alone does not establish charging speed, and a phone may not display the power it is drawing.

- Identify the phone’s supported charging method. Use the manufacturer’s specifications and instructions for the exact model.
- Check the bank port in use. Read the bank label or manual for that port’s output and supported protocols. If another device is connected, check whether the bank shares or reduces output across ports.
- Use a suitable cable. For example, Apple says iPhone 15 and later use USB-C PD and USB-C for faster wired charging, while earlier iPhones use USB-C to Lightning for faster wired charging. Google says USB-A-to-USB-C charges Pixel more slowly than USB-C-to-USB-C. These are platform-specific examples, not universal cable rules. Use the phone’s charging status first
Connect the phone and look at its charging screen, battery settings, or any accessory warning. These indicators are useful clues, though the level of detail varies by phone and software version.

iPhone
Apple says iOS 18 and later can show a Slow Charger alert when a higher-wattage charger could improve charging. On iOS 26, Settings > Battery can show a time estimate. These indicators do not provide a universal live wattage reading. Apple Support: About iPhone charge speeds

Choose a check that answers your question

Get a numerical reading with a USB-C meter
If you need a number, place a compatible USB-C inline power meter between the bank and phone, then observe its voltage, current, and wattage readings. A meter can show what is passing through the measured path at that moment; it cannot, by itself, prove the phone is receiving its model-specific maximum. Compare the reading with the phone’s supported charging behavior, not with the bank’s headline maximum.
For example, the ChargerLAB POWER-Z KM003C/KM002C manual labels voltage as VBUS, current as IBUS, and wattage as PWR. It cautions that protocol identification may not be fully accurate and describes limitations with meter cable simulation. Why the reading or charging rate changes
- Battery state: Google says a Pixel may charge faster when its battery is low, because it can take in more power. A reading taken near full charge may therefore be lower than one taken earlier. Google Pixel Help
- Temperature: Apple says charging may be put on hold in extreme temperatures; Google says a Pixel may pause charging to protect itself when it gets too warm. Apple Support and Google Pixel Help
- Phone activity: Apple notes that processor- or graphics-intensive use—including games, camera use, or high-quality video streaming with a bright display—can reduce charging speed. Apple Support
- Cable, adapter, or protocol: Google says charging speed can vary with the cable and adapter and warns that unsupported or damaged accessories can cause slow or absent charging. USB PD power is negotiated rather than determined by the bank rating alone. Google Pixel Help and USB-IF
- Shared output or intermediate connections: Apple says multi-port wired chargers may reduce maximum output depending on combined demand; hubs and car ports may charge more slowly than a dedicated USB-C charger. A bank’s port-sharing behavior is specific to its design, so check its manual. Apple Support
Troubleshoot a result that looks low
- Let the phone cool if it feels warm, disconnect other devices from the bank, and use one bank port.
- Try again with the phone below nearly full charge and idle, using a known-good cable compatible with the phone and bank.
- If using a meter, compare readings over time rather than treating one moment as definitive. If the meter appears to change charging behavior, repeat the check without it.
- If the result remains unexpectedly low, compare with another suitable power source under the same conditions. Keep the phone, cable, approximate battery state, bank port, and phone usage consistent so the comparison is meaningful.
A lower reading under one setup does not by itself show that the bank is faulty. The phone’s own model-specific guidance and a repeatable comparison are more useful than comparing a momentary draw with the bank’s maximum rating.
