Search for the title in the streaming service while signed in, open its detail page, and check the access label before you press play. A title appearing in search does not necessarily mean your plan covers it: it may be available to rent, buy, or watch through a separately billed add-on. Confirm the offer in the account and region where you plan to watch.
Check the title in the service you already pay for
- Search the exact title in the provider’s app or website. If several results have the same name, compare the artwork, year, cast, or season to make sure you have the right movie or show.
- Open the title’s detail page. Look for wording that says the title is included with your plan, a direct play option, or a provider logo that identifies the service covering it.
- Read the action before selecting it. “Rent,” “Buy,” or “Subscribe” indicates a separate payment path, not access included in your base plan. If pressing the button leads to a price or payment confirmation, stop if you do not want to pay extra.
- Confirm it in your signed-in account. A listing can differ by country or region, plan, and account conditions. Check the same account and region you will use to watch.
Prime Video is a clear example of why the detail page matters: Amazon distinguishes titles included with Prime from rentals, purchases, and separately billed add-on subscriptions. Its help page explains that “Included with Prime” titles can be played without an additional title charge, while the title page shows purchase options: Prime Video: What can I watch? and Rent and Buy Prime Video Titles.
Amazon’s description of a Prime Video interface rollout also noted that service logos and a yellow shopping-bag icon help distinguish access sources and extra-purchase content. Layouts and labels may differ by device, territory, account, or later interface updates, so rely on the offer shown on the title page rather than expecting every app to use the same icon: Amazon News: Prime Video rolls out updated streaming look.
Know what each access option means

Look across services you already subscribe to
If the title is not included on the first service you check, search another service you already pay for. A guide such as JustWatch can help find legal viewing options, filter by providers, track titles, and set availability alerts. It describes access categories such as flatrate, rent, buy, ads, and free, which are more useful than a single undifferentiated “available” label.

Treat a guide as a discovery tool, not final proof of entitlement. JustWatch’s support index includes cases involving missing or incorrect availability information, and the provider’s own signed-in listing is the better final check: JustWatch Content & Availability support. Its widget documentation describes daily updates for its documented provider data, but does not guarantee that every individual listing is current or complete. When comparing results, note the access type, exact provider or plan, region, whether the title is available now, and whether you already subscribe. A title listed as rentable on one service is not equivalent to one included with another service’s plan.

If the title does not appear
An empty search result does not always mean the title is unavailable to every account. Providers’ settings and catalogues differ. Netflix lists these possible reasons a title may not appear in search:
- Profile maturity settings: the title may be outside the profile’s permitted maturity level.
- Blocked titles: a title may have been restricted for that profile.
- Profile language: language settings can affect which titles appear.
- VPN use: a VPN may affect what Netflix shows.
- Release timing or regional rights: the title may not yet be available, or rights may differ by country or region.

Check again near the time you plan to watch
Streaming catalogues change as titles are added and removed, so an earlier search is not a lasting guarantee of inclusion. Prime Video says its included selection changes over time; Netflix says it can notify users when a title is about to leave.
