Apple Home does not provide a universal screen for checking or enrolling third-party Matter accessories in beta firmware. To find out whether a specific device qualifies, check the manufacturer’s app and model-specific support information, then contact the maker if eligibility is unclear. Matter compatibility alone does not mean a device has beta updates.

Check beta eligibility for your specific Matter accessory

  1. Identify the exact device. Note its brand, model number, and hardware revision, if available on the device, packaging, or in the manufacturer’s app. Eligibility may depend on the model or revision; Apple advises checking the accessory’s manual or manufacturer for device-specific requirements.
  2. Open the manufacturer’s app. Find the device’s firmware or software update screen. Look for a beta or preview enrollment option and any eligibility notice. Apple’s troubleshooting guidance directs users to the manufacturer’s app to check for firmware updates.
  3. Check the maker’s official documentation. Search its support page, manual, release notes, and beta-program help using the exact model and hardware revision. Apple points users to accessory manuals and manufacturer websites for device-specific support and firmware details.
  4. Ask manufacturer support if you cannot confirm eligibility. Provide the model and hardware revision, and ask whether the device qualifies, whether enrollment is available in your region, how to join, and whether beta firmware can be installed while the accessory is paired with Apple Home.
  5. Do not use successful pairing as proof. A Matter device appearing in Apple Home confirms neither that its manufacturer runs a beta program nor that your particular unit is eligible.

Can you install Matter beta firmware from Apple Home?

Apple’s cited Home guidance does not describe a general beta-firmware enrollment or installation flow for third-party Matter accessories. It directs users to the accessory maker’s app for firmware updates. For example, Apple Support says: “The accessory may need a firmware update. Download the manufacturer’s app for the accessory and install the latest firmware.” That instruction appears in guidance for an accessory reported as unsupported; it is not a claim that Apple Home installs beta firmware.

Apple’s iPhone Home guide covers adding Matter and Thread accessories, and notes that some Thread-based accessories may need an update from the manufacturer. Apple’s Matter instructions cover pairing and managing accessories, but do not offer a cross-manufacturer list of beta programs. Setup guidance likewise points users to the manual or manufacturer for additional updates and requirements.

Why Matter compatibility and beta eligibility are separate

Matter compatibility concerns whether an accessory works with compatible smart-home platforms. Beta firmware is a separate decision made by the device manufacturer, and may depend on the specific model, hardware revision, region, or current program rules. Apple’s pairing and management instructions do not establish whether a maker offers beta releases for a particular product.

So, if your question is “Does my Matter device support beta firmware?”, the answer depends on the manufacturer’s current information for your exact unit. Check the app and official documentation; if they do not say, ask the manufacturer rather than inferring eligibility from Matter support or successful setup in Apple Home.
