To check travel advisories and entry requirements before flying to the Gulf, verify three things for every country on your route: your own government’s current safety advice, the destination government’s rules for your passport and trip, and your airline’s document and flight requirements. Check transit separately: if you leave the airport’s international transit area, you may need permission to enter the country. The Gulf here means Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE); there is no single region-wide visa rule.

Start with your exact itinerary and traveler details

Before opening an advisory or visa checker, write down the details that determine which rules apply. A result for the wrong passport, airport or trip purpose can be misleading.

  • Route: every destination, connection, stopover and land-border crossing, including the airport and country for each transfer.
  • Transfer details: whether you will stay airside, change terminals, collect checked baggage, use an airport hotel or pass immigration.
  • Traveler: passport nationality and type, passport expiry date, and country of residence. Do not assume that residence gives you the same visa eligibility as a citizen.
  • Trip: purpose, arrival and departure dates, planned stay in each country, and any onward or return travel.

Use those same details each time you consult an official checker. If your route or passport changes, run the checks again.

Check your own government’s travel advisory for every country

A travel advisory helps you assess safety and disruption; it does not decide whether you qualify to enter. Open the current advisory issued by your own government for each country on the itinerary. Read the full page, not just its headline rating: look for geographic warnings, safety and health updates, and the date it was last updated or confirmed as current.

Advice can differ within a country. For example, UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office guidance describes regional risks in Saudi Arabia in relation to distance from the Yemen border and warns that nearby airports may close temporarily. Its Kuwait advice also notes possible flight cancellations and periodic airspace closures. These are location- and time-sensitive examples, not a blanket assessment of either country or the Gulf as a whole.

Advisories are written for the issuing government’s citizens and may reflect that country’s perspective. If you are not a UK or U.S. traveler, use the foreign ministry or equivalent authority for your own country rather than treating another government’s advice as a substitute.

Verify entry and passport rules with the destination government

For each country where you will enter, consult its official immigration authority, visa service or government visitor portal. Check the rule for your passport nationality, residence, passport type, trip purpose and length of stay. Depending on the country and traveler, the route to entry may involve visa-free travel, a visa on arrival, an advance eVisa or another permit; do not infer eligibility from another passport holder’s result or from a search snippet.

Official portals illustrate why checking the traveler’s own details matters: Visit Qatar presents visa pathways based on traveler information, while Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs directs visitors to the Royal Oman Police eVisa service. A visa approval or eligibility indication is not a guarantee of admission at the border.

Passport validity is also destination- and traveler-specific. The following examples show the scope of particular published guidance; they are not a checklist of rules for every nationality:

Published example What the guidance says Scope to keep in mind
Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain The cited UK entry guidance describes six months of passport validity. Applies to the British citizen passport holders covered by those UK pages, not automatically to all travelers.
Qatar The cited UK entry guidance says visitors staying more than 30 days must have health insurance from a registered provider. UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office guidance for the travelers and circumstances covered by that page.
UAE The U.S. Department of State advisory issued 17 September 2026 describes visa-on-arrival rules allowing U.S. passport holders to stay for 90 days in a 180-day period. Specific to U.S. passport holders and the visa-on-arrival conditions described in that advisory.

Check for other document conditions alongside the visa itself. The cited UK Oman entry guidance lists onward travel, accommodation details and proof of travel health insurance. The UAE government’s preliminary-check guidance also points travelers to passport validity, visa requirements, travel advisories and local laws. Confirm the applicable conditions on the official page for your own trip.

Treat every airport connection as a separate border question

Do not assume that a short layover is automatically exempt from entry rules. First establish whether your transfer stays airside. If you must pass immigration—for example, to collect baggage, change airports or stay outside the international transit area—check the country’s entry requirements for your passport and purpose of travel. Also ask the airline whether your connection can be completed without entering the country.

Transit arrangements differ by destination. The UAE government says travelers who are neither visa-free nor eligible for a visa on arrival need a pre-arranged transit visa if they intend to leave the airport. Its published transit-visa options are 48 or 96 hours and require processing and approval before entry. Qatar publishes separate transit-visa details. Neither example establishes a transit rule for the other Gulf destinations.

Confirm your airline’s document checks and the flight status

After checking government rules, confirm the carrier’s requirements for every flight, including connections. Ask what documents it will check at check-in and boarding, and whether baggage will be checked through to the final destination. Airline checks do not replace an immigration authority’s decision, but an unresolved document issue can prevent boarding.

Check the airline and airport’s current operating information close to departure, especially if an advisory reports airspace closures, airport disruption or possible cancellations. Reconfirm after any schedule change or regional security development; an itinerary that was workable when booked may no longer operate as planned.

Save your documents and repeat the checks before departure

  1. Keep secure copies of your passport identity page, visa or travel authorization, bookings, accommodation evidence and insurance details. Keep the official advisory’s contact or assistance information accessible as well.
  2. Reopen the advisory, immigration or visa pages, and airline information shortly before flying. Check each country on the route, not only your final destination.
  3. Repeat the relevant checks if your passport, route, travel dates, purpose or planned length of stay changes. If a government page is unclear or your circumstances do not fit its stated scope, contact the relevant authority or airline before travel.

Use official government services as the final reference for entry requirements. A third-party summary may help you find a topic, but it cannot establish that a particular traveler qualifies to board or enter.
