On most Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets, open Settings > About phone (or About tablet) > Software information. The page shows your Android version, One UI version, and build number. Menu names and layouts can differ by model, carrier, region, and software version.
Check your Samsung Galaxy software version
- Open Settings.
- Tap About phone. On a tablet, tap About tablet.
- Tap Software information.
- Read the Android version and One UI version fields. Note the Build number too if troubleshooting instructions request it.
Samsung’s support guidance says the Software information screen includes the One UI version, Android version, build number, and other software details. The steps apply to most Galaxy phones and tablets, but the exact labels can vary. Samsung Canada’s software update guide notes that screens and settings may differ by wireless service provider and software version; Samsung Gulf’s instructions describe the route for most Galaxy devices.
What the version fields mean
- Android version: The version of the Android operating system installed on the device.
- One UI version: Samsung’s interface software version. It is separate from the Android version, so give the field name as well as the value when reporting it.
- Build number: A specific software-build identifier that may be requested during troubleshooting.
If instructions ask for firmware information, Samsung’s U.S. troubleshooting guidance points to the Baseband version field for the firmware version. Follow the requested field exactly rather than substituting the Android version or build number. Samsung’s software update troubleshooting guide provides that distinction.
Find the hardware model instead
The model name or number identifies the physical device, not its Android or One UI software. Open Settings > About phone or Settings > About tablet and look for the device or model details on that page. Samsung notes that the available identifiers and screen layout may vary by provider, software version, and model. See Samsung’s guide to finding a phone or tablet’s IMEI, model, or serial number.

Check for an update separately
Looking up the installed version does not install an update. To check for one, open Settings > Software update > Download and install. Depending on the device or carrier, the menu may instead use a label such as System updates or present another check step. Samsung’s Galaxy software update instructions explain the update process.

If you cannot find the same menu
- Look for About tablet instead of About phone on a Galaxy tablet.
- Use the Settings search field to search for Software information or About phone if the menu is arranged differently.
- If the labels still do not match, consult Samsung support for your specific model and region; the general route is not established for every legacy model or carrier firmware.
