To see installed apps in Windows 11, open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps. In Windows 10, open Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features. To find one app quickly, search for its name from Start or Windows Search; for another view of desktop programs, check Control Panel’s Programs and Features.
Check installed apps in Windows 11
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Microsoft’s Windows 11 instructions use this path.
- Browse the list or use its search field to look for the app by name.
Do not confuse Installed apps with Default apps, which manages which apps open particular file types and links, or Startup apps, which manages apps that launch when you sign in.
Check installed apps in Windows 10
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Browse or search the list for the program.
For an additional list of desktop software, search for and open Control Panel, then select Programs > Programs and Features. Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025; Microsoft says the system continues to work, but standard free Windows Update updates, technical assistance, and security fixes ended on that date. See Microsoft’s Windows 10 support notice.
Find one app quickly with Start or Search
If you know the app’s name, open Start and look through its alphabetical app list, or type the name into Windows Search on the taskbar. Microsoft notes that Start presents frequently used apps first, followed by an alphabetical list. This is a fast way to locate or launch one known app; use Settings or Control Panel when you want to review an inventory.

Why an app might not appear in the list
A missing entry in one Windows list does not prove that a desktop program is absent. Windows distinguishes desktop programs from Store-style apps, and some desktop apps may not appear in particular Settings lists. Desktop programs can be installed from the internet or physical media and may run as local .EXE or .DLL applications. Microsoft describes this distinction in its guidance about app privacy settings.
